My daughter seems to be doing OK, but my grandaughter is not. She is having a real rough time breathing. After they finally got her stabilized, she was rushed by ambulance to another hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, about 10 miles from here. Jaleah has ebony hair and eyes, and skin as pink as pink can be !!! She has not been opening her eyes, except for little peeks, but she opened them up for grandma !!! :) She did lose another ounce today, and her feeding tube is still in, but she is drinking breast milk from my daughter, and supplemental formula. She tires real easily drinking from the bottle, but improving bit by bit !!! Thank you for the prayers, and please keep your prayers coming !!! May God Bless You ALL !!! I CRIED READING THIS SO HAPPY FOR YOU the most precious gift in the world may you all have long happy lives together |

My oldest two boys had no problems at all, but my youngest (will be a year old on the 25th) son was born a tad early at 37 weeks. Once you get to 37 weeks it's considered "full term", but if the dates are off at all then the baby may actually be early, which is what I am 99% sure happened with Conner. He was only 5 pounds, 1 ounce, 18 1/2 inches long. He had issues with not having a high enough blood/sugar level and he ended up having to be in the NICU for 3 nights. I know 3 nights is NOTHING compared to what other parents have gone through, but the NICU is the NICU - it's not fun at all =( Fortunately, he was strong enough/able to nurse directly from me, which helped him a lot. I had a c-section so I was there for 3 nights myself. Even when I was "technically" discharged though they let me stay. After 3 nights he went to the regular maternity floor and since he was a patient I was allowed to stay with him. He spent one night there and we finally went home the next day. I would not wish a baby in the NICU on my worst enemy - it's scary, it's heart-wrenching. As a mother you're already exhausted and hormonal/emotional from giving birth, so it makes everything worse. Seeing your newborn with an IV, monitors, ect. makes you feel so helpless......Def. a time in our lives that challenged us the most. My heart goes out to your daughter and her husband for having to go through that too. Getting the "he/she looks great!" from the doctor is the best feeling in the world!! I'm genuinely so happy for them - and you grandma! =) Amy Wood Proud mother, wife, student and homemaker.
