Take a look at the US under Bush. The policy was to promote democracy in the ME. This was funded with lots of dollars. It mend uprising against the government, nothing more or less, and the people carrying out that policy is not the army.

Very early the Hamas was elected, that should have shown the smell of this policy. But this policy lead at the same time to dicontent in Iran.

The policy and funded uprising seemed to have an effect and it was "successfull". You could move things in the ME without military intervention, without boots on the ground.

Under Obama that program was carried on. Why ? Because there is a long term thinking in the US government right now. A long term strategy was developped. It is a very old strategy:

i don't believe for a second that the use of nuclear weapons by israel ln ANY circumstances is a matter of set polic (except, maybe, in the case of utter destruction of the civilian government by a nuclear attack) rather than case-by-case prime ministerial/cabinet decision. i don't think there is an operational "use nukes if hit by chemical weapons" policy and, if there were one, i don't think you would be aware of it.

Lets just say that Israel has had to make that threat before. Policy? Probably not written down. Unwritten doctrine to follow for survival, yes.

Defense Ministry Censors Gantz Over Iran Remark
Chief of Staff hints an attack on Iran is coming in video birthday greeting to Defense Minister Barak. The greeting was edited out.

Not that this is very important in the scheme of things but . . .
