Do the numbers from ages 16-22 really mean that much? The teens are in high school and a good portion of those 22 and under are college students. Many wouldn't have jobs in the best of economies let alone a poor one. Posting the number in ages 23-29 would be more significant - or comparing the current numbers to a year when the economy was happily chugging along.
Quoting: Faith I was on my own by 18. I had a fairly large number of friends who were too. It absolutely matters. By 23 if you haven't had significant work experience and aren't a rich kid with good connections, or a very rare and marketable set of skills, you could be screwed for life. The later you start at the bottom the longer it takes to rise up too.
