I think it's complete bullshit. First, the number one goal of those in power right now is to amass as much land as they possibly can. They need to convince everyone that home ownership is not the way to go. And, they need to kill off as many as they can. And if they can convince people to get student loans for useless degrees, and not to marry, that fits in with their long range plan to drastically reduce the population, and reduce their status to serfs. Second, what single woman with children would be safe in a set up like this? It's a woman, by herself, living in a box. If she were discovered by a large percent of the preditor population (and that IS a large percent) she would be brutalized and run off or killed, and her shit taken over. If it were real, it would be naivety taken to the level of idiocy. It would be suicidal. That is why it isn't real. It serves many purposes for the man to publicize this kind of crap though. See, even with nothing, you can do fine. You don't need a job, you don't need an income, you just need a college education and loads of loan debt, then you reproduce without a husband, and raise your kids in a box !!! The queen is suffering too! :( Only because most of the crown's assets are in non-liquid assets - like huge tracts of land. |

I know you're articulate and intelligent and I think you would have liked what we had. There was a lot of animals. It was something we all had to "put up with". Raccoons, scorpions, black widows just walking in the houses. If I could make enough, I'd try to build something similar. Everything was recycled and unique and natural. But even the wealthy neighbors don't like what the guy from Greece built. It doesn't fit in with the natural environment. But like you said, he likes it. And he had the cash. Sad so many had to lose such a great place. It was affordable living and one girl died alone in a motel room while trying to find a place to live in the area. Sorry about the typos. Dad passed and I'm spending the holidays with Mom and the games on and the dogs are playing. Im sorry about your Dad...Im still working over my grief, My Dad passed away years ago. I have no easy answers for you, seems like the higher the population goes, everything gets more complicated. If I could choose one time period and place to live it would be Beverly Hills in the 1950s I feel like Im born wrong time, wrong generation. I have no easy answers... No one should settle for shanty town and no one needs a Mc Mansion either, There used to be the middle ground, called Middle class, but thats disappearing rapidly I dont know what to say God Bless.. Thanks. And Happy New Year to you and yours, too. |

Anyone who says people shouldn't go to Earth and prepare to live on less is a worthless bag of shit who enjoys laughing at others. You have nothing worth sayin. The absolute bottom ass end of the Internet. That's you. First of all, the woman spoke perfect, standard, American English, as a native American would speak, without any hint of an accent, and so did her children. There was no mention whatsoever of her having been a refugee from some horrible Argentinian holocaust. What she did STATE, in her perfectly unaccented American Standard English, and what they reported about her, was that she had college loan debts, and this box-life was a freely chosen response to those debts. She stated she could opt to live in a house, but she preferred a box in order to more quickly pay her college loans. She also stated that her box construction cost her $4,000. She was hardly an indigent refugee from some third world country. I believe Agentina has the highest rate of cosmetic surgery per capita of any nation in the world. So let's cut the crap on Argentina entirely, it has absolutely no merit whatsoever according to the FACTS presented in the bullshit little propaganda fable presented here. Second, let's talk about lawlessness. You will notice that I, not being a sociopath, do not have to resort to a continual barrage of personal insults and vicious invective in order to make my point. It is apparent to any but the most naive or deluded that a woman "squatting" in a flimsy, easily accessed, container in an isolated area, all by herself, is in a far more dangerous situation than a woman living in a location with police and fire protection and neighbors only minutes away, substantial walls, doors, and ceilings surrounding her, and the degree of anonymity that exists in urban areas. Now in the event of a complete breakdown of society and total anarchy, this woman may be in a slightly better position than the urban dweller, but maybe not. In either case, that is NOT the situation we are discussing. We are talking about reality, not armaggedon. Perhaps you believe that only those who cuss and swear and hysterically rail against anyone who disagrees with them have "something worthwhile to say on the internet." Just because yours is the most popular message board style of discourse, it doesn't follow that it has merit. In fact, I would guess that you are one of the very predator types that this woman should be protecting herself and her children from, if this were a real story, instead of the propaganda piece that it is. That is why you are raving about what a great idea this is. Yea, maybe we should all put our asses out on the street. It would make your life so much easier. |

Realize that we have 1.5 million homes in foreclosure, and when those finally happen, a flood of homeless will join the present homeless. Historically people built the Hooverviles out of whatever they could find. Personally I think a lot of people will die especially in harsh weather as we're not as tough buggers as they were. We don't know how to gather food or grow it or raise it. Many of them were sharecroppers and did know. Many of the impoverished city dwellers during the Depression lived on one meal a day, and severe malnourishment deeply affected the nations. It started in 1929, but by 1941 40% of the men who volunteered to fight in WW2 were 4F (not allowed to fight) mostly due to malnourishment. I'd encourage you to read about the Depression to get a realistic example of how that went. It might parallel our present circumstances and preparing supplies and learning skills might enable you to save your family and loved ones. Some people could build on existing family homes with crude structures and make it long enough for the next Depression to pass. Those would be far safer if they're in very rural areas with meadows to till and raise simple livestock like milk goats and rabbits for occasional protein supplements. |

I will repeat that the choice to build a home out of a packing crate was an option, not a necessity, for this woman. She spent $4,000 in order to construct her "home." They stated she did not HAVE to do this. It was a personal choice. If there are 1.5 million homes in foreclosure, all of those homes are going to be empty and presumably available for squatting. I know that there are countless, I'm talking thousands, of empty homes in my part of the country. I see no need for anyone to live in a box, and it would be difficult to survive in a packing crate in a Northern climate. As more and more become homeless, it becomes imperative to convince the indigent underclass that it was all their own doing, and really, their situation isn't all that bad after all. They should seek out creative ways of finding shelter just like this enterprising woman, and not cause any further trouble to anyone. |

Otherwise we're talking about sod houses instead. I've seen your type of response countless times in virtually every forum online. Your job is to spin any meaningful discussion into some nonsense dead end and kill anything insightful or intelligent that anyone has to say. I want to repeat that YOU MADE THE ABSOLUTELY ABSURD CLAIM THAT 40% of US males of fighting age were declaired unfit for service, 4F, because of malnutrition. That is what you said. That is YOUR version of "REAL HISTORY." That is your version of a meaningful discussion on the actual topic being discussed here. And, your challenge to me is to "DO SOME REAL HISTORY," like you? Well, I challenge you to come up with a single statistic anywhere that supports that absurd claim. Then you say I'm "mocking the woman for being homeless." I have repeatedly reported the facts stated in this film, which obviously you have not even viewed. Repeatedly I have stated that the woman was NOT HOMELESS. She had a choice of where to live. She had $4,000 with which to build this box-home. She made a choice to live there to pay off student loans. Period. My point was that this is pure propaganda. I don't believe a single word of this stroy. Its intent is to pacify homeless people by making them feel ashamed for not coming up with some ridiculously dangerous and inadequate shelter of their own, like this brilliant woman. And hey, if it's good enough for this brilliant college graduate, it should be good enough for me. After all, she CHOSE to do this, so it really can't be all that bad to be homeless. It's a LIFESTYLE, it isn't poverty. They're selling homelessness. That is the intent of this film. They're also selling the acceptability of single parenting, and college degrees and loans that lead to living in a box. They're selling this because they want to drastically reduce the population by any means, and they want to own ALL OF THE LAND. Your intent is obfuscation. You don't want anyone to realize what is really being sold in this bullshit film. |

This really doesn't have anything to do with the topic, which is the credibility of this story, and the desirability of following this woman's example (which is being spun in a positive way in the film). The idea that 40% of the men of fighting age in 1941 were so malnourished that the armed forces rejected them is absolutely, ludicrously false. Hoovervilles were eliminated in 1940. It has everything to do with the article. People will use creative ways to cheaply house themselves given our current circumstances. I challenge you to do some real history and not just assume that we had healthy folks in the aftermath of the Great Depression. That just is not supported by the evidence. Those who were 4F worked in industry along with women to produce the armaments for WW2 and ancillary industries to support critical infrastructure. People will build all kinds of houses as they become homeless. We can mock the woman for being creative and it will mean little as the homeless use whatever means are necessary to make their homes too. Permaculture folks have already created many inexpensive ways like the wolfati to make livable places, and anyone who studies their principles will have at least basic ideas on how to make something work.
