Re: **BREAKING** 8TH GRADER SHOOT AND KILLED IN TEXAS
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't air soft guns and regular pellet or BB guns have an orange tip?

If the boy was waving it around, couldn't the police have seen that it wasn't a real gun?
 Quoting: Mia41

There was a picture of the boy's gun in the press conference link above. It looked like a real gun. Allegedly, the boy refused repeated requests to put the gun down and then he pointed the gun at the police officers.

Sad, very, very sad.

Doesn't matter. Ask yourself: if you were a cop on the scene would YOU like to get shot in the eye and be blinded for life? Or the throat, or the femoral artery?

I understand that U.S. pellet guns have higher muzzle velocities than what we can legally buy up in Canada (500fps max without a Firearms License) too.

Up here we consider pellet (and even non-firing REPLICA guns) to be actual firearms for the purposes of criminal prosecution. You rob a bank with a cap gun where you've removed the orange tip from the barrel, it's armed robbery, pointing a firearm, assault w/a weapon, etc. Aim it at the police at your own peril, too.

understanding you're an idiot, that's about the only thing you're being clear about.. this ain't Canada. And we don't want to be like you...this was a 15 year old CHILD...

He knew what he was doing, and the cop did his job. 15 year olds are well aware of what they are doing. Bad day for him, and I'm not shedding any tears, you get what you give in life and he learned earlier than most.

Really? I have no idea how you came to the conclusion how this 46 year old who has worked since age 16 lived on a government dole. Where the hell did you come up with that?

Shame of this country? Why? you know nothing of me. I simply stated that this kid's actions justify the end-if the story is correct. Why you sit and cry over a 15 year old little punk is beyond me.

A 15-year-old teenager can be over 6 feet tall.

I've seen plenty of pellet guns that do not have orange tips.

This really sounds like a an episode of suicide by cop to me.

I guess it proves that cops are deadlier than armed 8th graders.

You don't have to shoot to kill. Pistols today with modern ammunition are pretty damn accurate. If you know how to shoot, a leg is a big target.

The only problem is when someone tries to defend themselves from a cop that is threatening them. They can't.

On the one hand, it is socially acceptable for a cop to murder to save his life, on the other it's socially unacceptable if someone kills a cop to save their own life.

It's an insane double standard that proves that for all their talk freedom, liberty, and all that bullshit, Americans loath the individual, and worship the State.

As long as the violence is committed by agents of the government, any violence is justified and appropriate.

At the range, under controlled conditions. Way to go, action hero! A bad guy shot in the thigh can still keep firing his weapon, which is why when police shoot, they shoot to definitively stop the target and that usually ends up with a fatality.

Everyone's a Monday morning quarterback in situations like this. I don't care how old the stupid kid was-- you point a gun (yes, even a pellet gun) at a cop after he tells you to drop it, you get dropped. End of story.

It doesn't matter what type of gun it is. If the kid was stupid enough to point it at them, and they couldn't tell the diff, they have every legal right to shoot first.

Can you tell the difference between a real gun and a pellet gun at 20 feet?

That is not what happens every time.

That is what happened THAT time. We are also talking about a full on adult there. Not a 15 year old kid.

Also that cop could have shot that guy in the leg as well. Obviously after he shot the cop all bets were off and they should have smoked his ass to death...and the did. The guy already proved he was a deadly threat. Fuck him

You don't have to shoot to kill when you fire the first shot. You can shoot somebody anywhere. Inside of 25 yards a pistol can hit with pinpoint accuracy.

If they would have popped that kid in the leg it would have diffusded that situation. If not then killing him would be justified.

We are talking about a 15 year old kid.

If you want to take that chance, trying to shoot someone to wound them, go ahead.

I think any of the opinion "It's just a 15 year old kid" should have to serve as a police officer on the front line of any big-city police force. In such an environment he or she could quickly learn that "kids" are quite capable of doing evil and deadly actions.

For example: 12-Year-Old Boys Drop Shopping Cart on Woman [link to video.answers.com]

A real-life firearm confrontation is a fluid thing. Rather than a stationary target, you have a real person capable of moving in an unpredictable manner. Missed shots don't magically stop, they continue on and may injure another person in the line of fire. Ricochets happen. As such is the reality, a mobile gunfight in a crowded school would be one of the last things any sane person would want to occur.

If you don't want to be injured in life, don't engage in high risk activities, don't do things with bad potential outcomes, and don't be around "kids" who brandish what appear to be guns in public.

You need to kill yourself.

If a cop can't tell the difference between a replica weapon, or a pellet gun, he shouldn't be a cop.

Remember those TASERS the cops just love using on people in wheelchairs and hospital beds?

The kid was stupid, he was being a stupid kid who had watched too much tv. This isn't a reason to be killed. Kids have tons of hormone issues, it's called growing up. Something this kid wont get the chance to do.

Cops are way too shoot happy. This should have been handled with a trank dart, (these really exist) or a Taser, or the most powerful weapon the cops rational and logic.

This is plainly a person with zero real life experience.
Grow UP.
This isn't an episode of "Parenthood", this is real life. The world the cops "Risk their lives everyday" in, is the same world you shop for groceries.

If you think it's acceptable for cops to shoot this kid, then it's acceptable for cops to shoot you. Your lipstick, might be a ballistic knife, your key chain a chain weapon.

You come across as the same bleeding heart kind of person who complains when zoo keepers shoot animals instead of using trank darts. You cant have it both ways.

Why is it humane to shoot a kid with a bullet, and an animal with a dart. I can only hope that one day you fall victim to the "king shit cop" with little man syndrome.

A little reality might make you see the light.

What makes you think I'm crying?.. it's sad, but a lot of things are these days.. i support the cops most of the time..most ALL the time..if they start killing kids in schools.. where's it stop? beleive this is a first...but i could have missed some other killings.. it's not even about the 'punk'.. it's about the state of things we're in.

You answered neither of my questions, but that's ok.
I agree with you that cops can be out of control-but-would it have been ok to shoot him AFTER he killed 8 people? Read the scenario (assuming it is true)...and tell me that there isn't one less anti-social roaming the planet tonight.

5=child
15=not so much.

Are you telling us they knew his age before they shot him? I remember how I thought my 13 year old was all grown up now. Then she goes and does something that reminds me she is just a kid.

They actually probably thought he was YOUNGER than he was. He's in a middle school, and he's 1-2 years too old to be there.

3 shoots were fired,,

1 to the leg
2 to the shoulder
3 the back of the head,, (fatally killed the boy)

was the shoot to the head necessary?..

Re: **BREAKING** 8TH GRADER SHOOT AND KILLED IN TEXAS

Ummmm...it wasn't just about the cops being in danger. It was all the innocent nearby children and teachers as well.

You're right - this isn't a TV show - it's real life, life and death decisions made by a very young and very stupid young man.

Just heard the 911 call.. and the weapon.. odd someone told me he would have had to paint the tip of the BB gun black, that it's federal law the tips of BB guns be painted in that orange color. From pictures of the gun, Cops would have thought it was a very real gun.. Case closed..
