I couldn't help but think the next step is obvious, virtual sex with holograms. Things are so fake now it's hard to know whts real any more

Pretty cool, and you can bet you'll see this in gaming technology sometime in the near future lol. But it will be even better if they put together a kind of glove thing that simulated the feeling of being touched by the item through a high density grid of sensory stimulants or whatever

Okay so if it's a hologram, you can see it with your eyes right in front of you - light, and you can touch it - proprioceptors are stimulated to create feedback in environment, then the hologram has just become real.

Where did the hologram end and the real object come to exist?

The light makes the object, you just need a feedback system to ccreate the interaction with the object.

Our feeback system is what makes us "real" - physically feel exisit - our bodies are nothing but light.

Anything just became possible.

Imagine playing Resident Evil or something of similar taste and having a hand grab your shoulder during one of those particularly gut wrenching delays when entering a new room....

This tech really has incredible implications!

This guy Gene Golgoff [link to en.wikipedia.org] is the one who suggested the concept of the Holodeck to Gene Roddenberry. From Wikipedia:

Dolgoff also suggested to Roddenberry that all the controls on the ship should be holographic, but Roddenberry couldn't see how that could be conveyed to the viewer and didn't come to be.

If humans are nothing but holograms, their environment projeted around them like a holodeck, then gravity is the force field created to give us our awarness of environment. One feedback mechanism at least. Gravity would only be relative to how it was projected/experienced in the holodeck environment.

Real objects? What do you mean? A better question: If a hologram can be real enough to project a hologram, can it be real enough to project a hologram of a hologram real enough to project a third order hologoram? And how long have we been playing this game?
