Wandering Gray Wolf Caught on Camera in California. First in 80 years | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1429178 01/05/2012 09:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank you for this uplifting story. I followed the re-introduction of the Gray Wolf in the '90's. from the link: "Since OR-7 left his pack, he has meandered more than 700 miles across mountains, deserts, and major highways to southwestern Oregon and onto Northern California. A conservation group has dubbed him Journey, a name picked from a list of entries sent by children as far away as Finland. Oregon Wild said it was part of an effort to make the wolf too famous to kill." Apparently this 2 year old is looking for a mate. I wish him good luck and a safe journey. |

Quoting: Storm* [link to www.msnbc.msn.com] Though the 2-year-old wolf was captured and fitted with the collar by a state biologist last spring, OR-7 was not photographed. The animal made headlines last month when it wandered into the southern Cascade Range, becoming the first wolf in southwestern Oregon since 1946. Last week, he crossed into California, which has not seen a wolf in more than 80 years. Tracking data on Wednesday showed the wolf was staying out of trouble in a forested section of the Cascade Range in Northern California and appeared to be heading south, said Mark Stopher of the California Department of Fish and Game. Good Karma for you! Wolves are incredibly beautiful -- my wolf-hybrid pup is a tenacious little bugger, too! |

I hope he finds a pack. I imagine your wolf hybrid is a hand full, most are! |

His name was Pepper, because that's what he looked like...I was trying to play with him and dad got to him just in time...I was like 7-8...he got rid of him after that of course...they are pretty behind bars at the Zoo, but when I see them in the wild they best stay at a distance :) Nuke the Muzzies! You bet...you can't take the wild out of a wolf...even some breeds of dogs eat kids, like Pit bulls and others that I'd as soon shoot as take any chances... But back to golf/tennis...are you inviting me to be your partner? Nuke the Muzzies! With freedom comes responsibility. Heterosexual pride! ![]() |

Just kidding.... I don't get the golf/tennis thing. Pepper was chained up, and I was petting him like I had done a hundred times before...he never showed any signs of violence until out of nowhere he tried to eat me :( Nuke the Muzzies! | Anonymous Coward User ID: 7157228 01/05/2012 12:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here in Nova Scotia we have wolf/coyote mixes, and these beautiful animals are being culled right now. This is the second year for the cull. The coyotes have been in NS since the late 1970s and have caused no problems other than to kill a few domestic farm animals (farmers' fault -- inadequate fencing). The cull method is horrendous -- spring traps that leave the animal in agony waiting for the trapper to come and club it to death. Sometimes the coyotes chew their own leg off to get free and then die from their injury. The pelt bounty is only $20. I hate the cruelty that humans are capable of. And I have a feeling that this poor wolf's days are numbered. Some sick human will kill it on purpose, just because. The park authorities should have left this little guy alone, let him be a wolf in peace and anonymity. He's a marked being now. |
