Are my presciption meds being watered down?
I had cancer surgery last year to remove stage III malignant melanoma and the 5 lymph nodes it had spread to. In the process many sensory nerves were severed and I was left with severe nerve damage causing me incredible pain. At 35 years old I didn't want to become opiate dependent (not to mention I would lose my job being on opiates) so after many trials & errors with different pain relievers, ultram did the best job. But in the past 2 weeks I have been dealing with flu-like symptoms, muscle & joint aches, fever like hot & cold spells, sleeplessness, ect.

I saw my doc today, he did bloodwork, and it came back normal. He asked if I'd stopped taking my ultram as these could be symptoms of withrawal & I said no. He said it might be a virus or possibly another autoimmune disorder (he believes melanoma is autoimmune as well) and referred me to see an immunologist for further testing.

I researched withdrawal symptoms for ultram & was astonished to learn I have nearly every symptom even though I take my generally low doses regularly. Then I came across an article of a pharmacist that had watered down chemo meds a few years back in my area. I'm not accusing the pharmacy, but what if the drug companies are doing this to stockpile or make $$? I know the FDA overlooks big pharma, but we all know how big govt works. Any thoughts?

that would make sense after a year on the meds, but the onset of symptoms was rather quick and intense. I would think tolerance would be more gradual.

I would love to be med free, and just use medicinal mj, but I am drug tested @ work. Believe me, I've tried every homeopathic remedy out there and my doc is an osteopath who supports and agrees with me on the dangers of big pharma. But it's either this med, or I'd be on disability, and I want to work. I'm a flight attendant & am very active. So in a perfect world I'd take nothing and work but that's not an option, I went with the lesser or many evils.

Drug test and opiates at work should not be an issue as long as you have a prescription for X medication.

They can test for opiates in general then if found test for specific opiates which they will as long as your file is flagged that you take prescription medications.

As for levels, tolerance build up is not always a slow process. One day a full normal dose works, the next suddenly you need more than previously.

I broke my back a long time ago and the gave me ultram and I took it for years then suddenly started having the same symptoms. Long story short I was having withdraw. I had a spell of my back hurting so I took them on a constant basis. Then when I felt better and stop traking them and started feeling like total crap.

But exact same symptoms. Exact. Hot cold weak. I think its withdraw.

I didn't know that about tolerance, thanks for the insight.
Opiate use while I'm @ work is strictly forbidden with flight attendants. It's considered a safety position, and it interferes with reaction time in emergency situations, so even with a script I can't take it during working hrs according to the FAA. We have similar rules as the pilots regarding medications while on duty. Sudafed is even prohibited because it alters reaction time.

I'm sorry to hear that. That's what I'm trying to avoid, but eventually I will probably be there too. I have the beginnings of degenerative disk disease in C2-C4 from this nightmare. I'd just like as much of normal life as possible before I'm no longer able. My doc laughs, telling me how many people would kill to be offered opiates for life & disability to boot. That all assuming I beat the 75% 5 yr mortality rate for the cancer.

So I suppose I'm gonna have to ask my doc to up my dosage? I'm only taking 150 mg/day now.

Re: Are my presciption meds being watered down?
With higher energies coming from our galactic center its causing particles to speed up.

I cant remember where I got the information but drugs may not have the same effects, effecting tolerance or causing drug sensitivities in those who have never had those problems before.

Maybe you are going though withdrawal and ultram just isnt cutting it because your body got use to it too fast. I would even try stopping completely on a day off to see if your side effects get better or worse. If it is worse take a ultram and see if it gets better because tolerance will be lowered even after 2-3 days of no use.

But then again you can just placebo yourself into this belief.

Re: Are my presciption meds being watered down?
look into the brand of the medicine as well.

If it is generic ultram (tramadol), tramadol is actually a racemic mixture.. not all makers of tramadol are equal, some contain more of the isomer that does not work as well. It depends on the pharma company really...

Did the pharmacy recently change your brand??? They did that to me when I took meds (i completely weaned myself off ALL RX just in case things get bad and I couldn't get them anyways, I didn't want down time due to WD)..

SO, that, or tolerance.

Re: Are my presciption meds being watered down?
also, there are probably at least a half dozen companies that make the drug, the are NOT all the same,, personal experience tells me that..

Also, tramadol wd is HORRIBLE b/c not only is it an opiod (with opiate wd symptoms), but it also acts in much the same way as antidepressants (like effexor, etc..). The WD is a double edged sword from it..

Why the fuck would they 'water it down'?

The shit only costs 5 cents a pill to make. Do you think they are going to risk their hundreds of dollars a bottle to save a penny a pill?

Wow, I'll check into that. I do get the generic, which the pharmacy claims is the same and it saves me 15 whole dollars per month. Maybe I'll have them change it to the name brand instead. I'd pay $15 to not feel like this for sure.

Re: Are my presciption meds being watered down?
History of medicine proves opiates are best pain killers with mininal side effects
This is why big pharma poison most opiates with APAP to destroy patient liver
Tramadol taken for pain or anti depressant will not cause any damage to internal organs
Suddenly taking away patient medicine is not only cruel -it will cause death example-insulin , high blood pressure meds etc

Medicines sold in US are mostly repackaged Chinese bulk

I've done some reading about the w/d symptoms online & they seem pretty viscious. The seizures especially. I would never go cold turkey off this, it's too risky. But @ the same time, I don't want to get to the point where I have to take handfuls just to maintain a level of pain control either. One blogger said she had w/d symptoms 4 weeks after quiting. Scary.
