Interested in Meditation, where do I start?
I am wondering where to start for someone who has never tried any meditation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated from anybody with experience. I don't know what I should expect from it, or what sort of mindset I should have going into it, so any insight would really help.

Thank you very much.

You start by getting quiet.
Ever done any yoga?
Sit with your legs crossed and get quiet...that's a good place to start
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven... A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance....

Sit down in a quiet place and think to yourself about you and
the things of life. Try to picture a snow flake and how the patterns of that snow flake is, and how many different shapes there are in snowflakes. Think of water how it travels in different ways, how it travels the world, and flows down mountains, go with that water and see what created it.

Re: Interested in Meditation, where do I start?
I use to lie down on the couch and go completely still, I wouldn't try to move a muscle from that point on, and try to keep my mind quiet and also play around a bit with my own closed eye light patterns. We have all seen ugly stuff from TV and whatnot so you may or may not get the odd scary image or face sort of pop up but don't let it get your heart pumping just try to visualize something nice and it'll stop. After you have been motionless for a while perhaps 10-15 minutes or more your body will start to think your sleeping and will start semi-sleep paralysis, all the while trying to make sure you remain conscious. I have experienced lots of jolts of energy that just seem to make me do a big involuntary twitch, kinda neat though. You may start to feel vibrations like the dryer is on next to you shaking the house a little, and then your often in a really calm state with a clear mind and I would try to leave my body.
At one point while in this state it felt as if my astral feet were raising in the air a few feet high, and my astral head felt like it was where my neck was to make up for my astral feet being so high, but I got overly excited and I just sort of snapped back in my body. I also got to this point one time where I was getting perfect visuals of everything I was thinking in front of me, as clear as day with perfect details it was amazing, and I would ask questions that seemed to be answered instantly by what seemed like my higher self or a spirit guide, I only experienced it for about 30 seconds but it felt as if I had the answer for any question that could of popped in my head I wanted (I think it is similar to how some of the posters here seem to be tapping into something such as when Innervoice222 started that thread [link to www.godlikeproductions.com]
only it only lasted for 30 seconds and while in a very deep meditative state).

I'm sorry my post is a bit of a mess I just kind of wrote some of my experiences down as I thought about them, it is mostly me doing it with the intention of astral travelling/lucid dreaming and I think it all ties in with meditation, just keep a loving/heartwarming mindset and you should be on the right track.

Yes. The most important part is the awakening from the deep sleep which from you can learn how your consciousness actually works. Good luck with not missing the moment.

Re: Interested in Meditation, where do I start?
You don't have to be sitting still to be meditating. You can meditate during whatever tasks you do in the day. It's more of a state of mind, your brainwaves probably change. I think it's called "alpha" or "beta" waves or something. Anyway, you should let your mind drift into a state that is more receptive to ideas, instead of projecting the meaning you already know is there onto things, like if you see a penny don't think "oh it's a penny" think copper, minerals, all the people's fingers who touched it, its weight, the heat it took to make it, or the meaning of the printed material on it. If you want to meditate on something, you can pick one thing, like altruism, or money, or meditation itself, just pick anything that you like even family, or relatives, or something more ethereal, or whatever, and let your mind wander around all the aspects of that thing. In a meditative state you'll see the truths of things coming to the fore, not necessarily the basic facts most people use to get through the day, but all the details of things you may have not noticed before, and the truths held in each of these minute details.

This is not the run-of-the-mill meditation, I know, but it is nice if you don't have time or patience to sit still for hours on end, or if that just makes you fall asleep. :P

Re: Interested in Meditation, where do I start?
You can look up some good meditation videos on youtube and on top of that you could google up some results, there are different types of meditations. All the way from breathing exercises, stress relievers, health boosters, even to spiritual communication.

Re: Interested in Meditation, where do I start?
Just sit or lay down. Don't try to visualize anything, this is a common mistake and causes more harm than good. If you want to see pretty patterns take a psychedelic or wake up in the middle of a dream and goto the bathroom. Meditation is about sitting still and being introspective about yourself, peeling away layers until you get to the Truth.
