it is right for people to hold their constitution in a sort of reverent respect because it represents rule by law as opposed to rule by criminals.

That said, it is a mistake tmake mythical heroes of a bunch of rich and venal slave owners like Jefferson and Washington. They wrote the constitution with its system of checks and balances because they saw that the House of Commons was becoming too powerful in Britain.

Get it. They wanted to prevent the common people from becoming too powerful. They were especially pissed off because Britain had just outlawed slavery in 1773, and recognised native rights in North America (1763).

Thomas Jefferson had sex with slave women and allowed his own children to be sold as slaves. The entire work force on George Washington's plantation deserted to Nova Scotia, finding the promise of free land more real than all the fancy words in the Declaration of Independence.

Washington was such a dinosaur that he tried to make restoration of "his property" a demand in the peace negotiations.

Instead of trying to figure out who won the Iowa primary, it would be better to figure out a new constitution that allows multi-party democracy.
