Quoting: sag3_anima1 I totally agree with you on that. However, the Bible commands us to not forsake the body or the assembly. This is so that we wouldn't go back into the ways of the world, and so that we would be held to some sort of accountability with one another. The longer someone stays out of church, the easier it will be for them to slide back into their old habits. Church is there to protect you, and to provide support from other Christians so that you don't feel like you're fighting the battle alone. "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching" - Hebrews 10:25 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Matthew 22: 37-39 "What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" - Galatians 5: 22-23 |

To find a true and deep inner peace you don't need a book or a building. Treat everyone as your equal and respect everyone no matter their class, race or religion. Humanity should be united together. The separation is there by design to stop us from discovering what we once were, what we are and what we can be. Last Edited by WeAreOne on 01/10/2012 03:58 AM Be the change you want the World to be. This world is pulling people in, and making sin seem so enticing. That's why we Christians are called to be as loving, forgiving, and accepting as possible. When a visitor comes to church, take the time to make them feel welcome. Studies show that a visitor will decide whether to come back within the first few minutes of entering a church. If they feel like noone welcomed them, they probably won't come back. I realize that socializing is not the reason we're there. However, it helps to get them there. Also, we should strive not to be judgmental. Regardless of the way someone looks, acts, or the fact that they have a "past", we should love them as Jesus loves us. Quoting: Dease "Jesus paid much too high a price For us to pick and choose who should come We are the body of Christ If we are the body, why aren't His arms reaching Why aren't His hands healing Why aren't His words teaching If we are the body Why aren't His feet going Why is His love not showing Them there is a way There is a way " - Casting Crowns Why does everyone assume people are "falling away" from god? I had no idea the Joe Schmoe and his crew of construction workers were "injecting" god into the building constructed for the purpose of congregating. Or wait..does god magically fill the church the instant a preacher/reverend/pastor and so on and so forth enter it? God is EVERYWHERE. A church isn't needed. You can worship at home, in your car, in the restroom, in the park. You don't need to frequent a building filled with, in most cases, self righteous, hateful so called church goers. That is the problem..the people that are attending, that is why other people are turning away, not to mention the psychos at the helm spending most of their time trying to scare the shit out of others. I don't need to hear about hell-fire and brimstone and about how others are going to suffer for eternity for this sin and that sin. And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." Amen. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 8985118 01/21/2012 01:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How Will The Shocking Decline Of Christianity In America Affect The Future Of This Nation? January 19,2012 According to that study, 15 percent of all Americans say that they have "no religion". That is up from 8 percent in 1990. That is quite a change. But the move away from religion is particularly pronounced among our young people. One recent survey found that 25 percent of all Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 say that they have no religion. Obviously the Christian faith is not winning the battle for the hearts and the minds of our young people. The cold, hard truth is that in America today, the younger you are, the less likely you are to consider yourself to be a Christian. Large numbers of young Americans that went to church while they were growing up are now leaving U.S. churches entirely. A recent study by the Barna Group discovered that nearly 60 percent of all Christians between the ages of 15 and 29 are no long actively involved in any church. But not only have they left the church, our young people have also abandoned just about all forms of Christian spirituality. Just check out the results of one survey of young adults that was conducted by LifeWay Christian Resources.... •65% rarely or never pray with others, and 38% almost never pray by themselves either. •65% rarely or never attend worship services of any kind. •67% don't read the Bible or any other religious texts on a regular basis. more [link to freerepublic.com] |

After years of continuous growth, membership in the Roman Catholic Church dropped by 0.59 percent and the Southern Baptist Convention decreased by 0.24 percent, according to the 2009 edition of the Yearbook of American & Canadian Churches, published this week. Although the percentage losses are small compared to the total membership of the churches, the yearbook pointed out that the two communions had "grown dependably" over the years and "now they join virtually every mainline church in reporting a membership decline." There are no clear-cut theological or sociological reasons for church growth or decline, says the Rev. Dr. Eileen W. Lindner, editor of the yearbook. "Many churches are feeling the impact of the lifestyles of younger generations of church-goers – the 'Gen X'ers' or 'Millenials' in their 20s and 30s who attend and support local congregations but resist joining them," Lindner states in the report. "A slowing of the rate of growth of some churches and the decline of membership of others ought to be the focus of continued research and thoughtful inquiry," she adds. more [link to www.christianpost.com] |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 1503943 02/08/2012 02:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Doesn't surprise me the "Sunday churches" closing down Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1406613 maybe they went to Keep "The Sabbath" instead of Satan's Counterfeit day As a Bible-believing, born-again follower of Jesus Christ, I'd have to say this statement sums up why the churches are closing down. Not for the poster's reason, but because of the religious dogma the poster is spouting. People hate it. "We and we alone have the truth. Only me and my 144,000 are going to Heaven (this includes my family, of course). Sunday is the devil's day, Saturday is the true Sabbath. You must be baptized or you're going to hell. You must speak in tongues or you're not saved. We pray to the saints and to the Virgin Mary. We only listen to hymns. We only listen to contemporary. We should give all our money to the poor. We should support such and such political views. We should support Israel. We should follow the Law and the Ten Commandments (except for following the Sabbath, of course.) We shouldn't follow the Law at all, the Law is dead. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera." This is why church doors are closing. Fundamentalist Christianity (every word of the Bible is literally true) has ruined the understanding of the scriptures. God speaks to us metaphorically, symbolically, allegorically, and literally through poetry, proverbs, commandments, history, and parables. When people stop majoring on the minor differences of the faith and start being obedient to the SIMPLEST of Jesus' commands (i.e. Love your enemies, love they neighbor as thyself, do good to those that hate you, etc.), then the church will start growing again. Damn the ungodly state of Israel for causing all this confusion in the American church by deceiving America into supporting its dastardy, ungodly wars. When Jesus came, He established the New Covenant. Under that New Covenant, we are bound to live a sacrificial life - not to conquer the land of Canaan. That's the Old Covenant. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 10373181 02/08/2012 06:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Decline Of Christianity In America Are we witnessing the decline of Christianity in America? When you examine all of the most recent poll numbers, the answer is inescapable. Christian churches in America are losing members rapidly, and this trend is especially dramatic among young Americans. According to a stunning new survey by America's Research Group, 95 percent of 20 to 29 year old evangelicals attended church regularly during their elementary and middle school years. However, only 55 percent of them attended church regularly during high school, and only 11 percent of them were still regularly attending church when in college. Those numbers have got to be incredibly sobering to the evangelical Christian leadership in the United States. The reality is that young Americans are deserting the Church in America in droves. According to that survey, 15% of Americans now say they have "no religion" which is up from 8% in 1990. That would be bad enough news for evangelical Christianity. But there is some more news from that survey that is much worse. In that same survey, 46% of Americans between the ages of 18 to 34 indicated that they had no religion. Forty. Six. Percent. It is important to realize that not all of those 46 percent are unbelievers. According to a survey by Bohan Advertising/Marketing, the Barna Group and the United Methodist Church, 62 percent of Americans in that age group consider themselves to be "spiritual", and 43 percent of them have prayed to some higher power in the last 2 months. But what it does mean is that almost half of all Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 do not identify themselves with any particular religion. And when you look at more recent poll numbers for Christianity in particular, the numbers become even more staggering. Another new survey by the Barna group reveals that less than 1 percent of all Americans between the ages of 18 and 23 hold a Biblical worldview. This new poll data clearly demonstrates that the youngest adults in America are clearly rejecting traditional evangelical Christian teaching. [link to signsofthelastdays.com] |
