Ron Paul got huge applause from the audience when he mentioned that he ( RP ) was drafted into military service when he had 2 small children...and he served in the US AIR FORCE. Gingrich tried to excuse himself from serving in the military during the Vietnam era by getting deferments for being a father. WHAT A PUSSY! But of course Gingrich and Romney, neither of whom served in our military ...are beating the drums of war. and are only too happy to send YOUR sons and daughters to war! HYPOCRITES! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6706972 Principled? Except that Ron Paul said he was drafted and he wasn't. RP did get into it with Gingrich over military service. Paul said he was "drafted" into the military. He was not drafted. He continues to use this assertion, but it is simply not true. In fact, nobody was drafted into the Air Force in the 60s. [link to stevebussey.com] In the debate, Ron Paul said twice that he was drafted. It's also true that nobody has ever been drafted into the Air Force. Ron Paul received a draft notice, but rather than being drafted into the Army infantry as an enlisted grunt, he rushed over to the closest Air Force center and joined the Air Force as an officer. He served on active duty for two years in a stateside hospital. I can't say I blame him, and I would have done the same thing myself. But had I done that, I wouldn't be going around saying I was drafted, when I wasn't, in order to gain some higher moral ground. So since he wasn't drafted, did Ron Paul dodge the draft, lie about being drafted or is he just being forgetful and senile? |

It's funny when they claim to be Reagan Republicans but toss aside Ron Paul as libertarian. I know reading is tough but maybe they should check out Reagan a little more. He based conservatism on limited federal government and more individual freedom. That's a pretty libertarian policy and far removed from these social conservative big government liberals called republicans today. |
