Juicing - Who Knew
I have always made fun of die-hard juicers. The idea always seemed ridiculous to me. I love food too much.

However, if you worry about getting all of your nutrients the natural way, it's the best way to do it.

Think about it.

So, I was talked into trying it for awhile. I was like, "oh hell no!" but I tried it.

First few days...suck ass.

After that?

Whole. New. Person.

And doing it cuts down your risk of cancer. It has all kinds of other benefits too

Very well said. Natural food is the best food, but unfortunately people have been turned into unthinking consumers who will buy anything that TV presents as good.

but what's it taste like? Did you eat other foods too? Id like to try but the idea of swilling down green slime juice alone...well, I dunno. What kind of juicer did you buy? Was it expensive? Would you buy a different brand if you could?

Re: Juicing - Who Knew
iv had juicers in the past years ago.
about 2 weeks ago i went out and bought a £60 which is mid range.
It producers a proper unlumpy juice which so far i have only used fruit. it really is nice and its gotta be good for you right?
I want to start chucking a bit of veg in there to but just havent took the plunge yet.
Also after the juice has been extracted it leaves the pulp in a different compartment and im sure there is many things that could be done with this, cakes etc but i just havent bothered.
It does get expensive getting fruit just for juicing but i pay lots for proper not from concentrate juice anyway so at least i can make my own combo.
as a sum up,, for me the juicer is great.

We've had a Breville for the past 7 years. $300 - well worth it. We juice vegetables, with some carrot, apple, and a little beet to make it delicious. It takes time to do, but the results speak for themselves.

I think it's benefits probably derive from a 10-day detox kind of thing and then as a meal replacement thereafter. You would get many more natural vitamins and enzymes than if you ate the foods (you probably wouldn't be able to eat that much). I think a long period of juicing would only be for the obese as a kick start to a diet/exercise program.

Re: Juicing - Who Knew
Congratulations OP. Anyone here who will take a fresh bunch of carrots, throw in an apple and some pineapple for flavor and drink the whole thing will find out the truth the first time. You'll get a rush and a flushed feeling from it all. That's just the start.

There's also something to be said for just getting a Vitamix and doing smoothies. The added fibre can work out a good colon cleanse. In fact, I recommend drinking 8 ounces of magnesium citrate to purge everything and then start on a new journey of health.

My immune system was destroyed and I almost died due to contracting meningitis. I got horrible colds 4-5 times a year afterwards and started taking control of my own health. I now no longer get sick, period.

I use a Vitamix which is like a blender and use the whole food, not just the juice. Good way to eat your spinach, carrots and kale without having to actually taste it when you also put in fruits.

Saw that vid on Netflix last week and it made me yank out my old Jack Lalane juicer. After making a few juices I realized I'm just too lazy to clean up the juicer mess and perhaps something better was on the market. sure enough I found something that even makes fresh O.J.

I just ordered a Hurom HU-100 juicer from the Sharper Image online. Had one in my amazon cart but wasn't sure if the seller was an authorized Hurom dealer so I removed the item. The Hurom site lists the dealers. If you have a surplus of berries, tomatoes, oranges, grapefruits check out the Hurom. Cleans up in a breeze. it's a slow juicer model which means it gives you much more juice than most other types of juicers in the same price range.

The movie pushed the Breville juicers which looked good too, but for my needs the Hurom looked pretty good. If you buy a Hurom make sure you get the newest '3rd generation' which has stronger parts and comes with a how-to DVD.

Re: Juicing - Who Knew
I make fruit drinks with my hand blender. The hand blender came with a mixing container.

I cut up fruit and drop it in the container and blend it up.

It makes great fruit smoothies.

An example would be:

a few grapes
a few strawberries
a sliced up banana
a sliced up apple or orange
diced fresh pineapple

Then add a little orange juice and blend.

Here's a chart on the benefits/healing with fruit:

Sounds delicious, but I'd be concerned about that much sugar. Would be ok once in awhile, but one of the nice things for us is that we get to eat a LOT of greens this way. Doesn't take much fruit to make even bitter greens tasty. Also, for the poster who was concerned about fiber - there is a lot of fiber in the juice. You can also eat flax seed, raw nuts, and regular salad for even more fiber.

Re: Juicing - Who Knew
Sorry for the hit and run -- I had some things to do.

I got a nice $300 juicer from someone on craigslist for $50. They got a Breville and decided to get rid of it. It's a Champion. It has different screens so you can either jucie or puree (some other stuff too - I need to read the booklet)...

So today I have managed to drink the juice from apples, romaine hearts, artichoke, kale, carrots, celery, strawberries, tomatoes, and more kale (yeah kale lol)

I do different mixes but always try to do 2/3 of it as leafy greens, and the rest to taste it up.

For now, I'm doign the reboot for ten-days. I decided to do it to see if I can get rid of this horrible bout of fatigue and allergies I've been dealing with, along with my reflux issue and also just thought it would be good to maybe retrain my tastebuds so I will hopefully start to eat better.

Too much processed foods is like eating empty calories. And even if you don't eat fast food, most people still get the majority of their food from cans and boxes and just add a few fresh ingredients.

No more of that for me...easy as it is to open up a can of chicken noodle soup, it's much healthier to pack in nutrients.

So, one 8-ounce cup of juice, depending on which veggies/fruits/herbs you put in it, can have all the nutrients your body needs for the day.

I feel fucking amazing. Not a blemish on my face. I have a spring in my step that I haven't had in over a decade.

And this spring, watch out. I'm growing most of my stuff in the backyard.

I want one of those Jack LaLane juicers where you can put the whole veggie or fruit in, you dont have to worry about chopping it into smaller bits to get it to fit. Tomatoes + 1 jalapeno + carrots + blueberries(yup) + celery + parsley = WOWSA! So good...
