This interview is from November 2011... not exactly breaking news. (He states in interview that the accident happened 8 months ago (happened in March), putting this interview in November).
Regardless, Japan in still screwed.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3919151 Actually, the whole northern hemisphere is screwed. There was massive particulate release from the Explosions at Fukushima. Radioactive Plutonium and Uranium and Cesium and Strontium, and Iodine have been found all across the United States, Europe, Asia and even northern Africa. There are hundreds of square miles of Alaska that should be exclusion zones but for the fact that almost nobody lives in the highly contaminated areas. The United States government has decided to ignore alerting anybody about the contamination. It is estimated that 12,000 people will die, but they are just aboriginal people (Eskimos) who want to live off of the land. The wild life is highly radioactive, just like wild boars in Europe after Chernobyl. Do not eat any meat or fish products from Alaska. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1435822 There are white people too where the Eskimos live just not many of us. I lived in the SW part of the state until this past fall, we were right in the path of the jet stream. Now we are having odd health problems that seem only to get worse. Yet it's very difficult to find any information regarding radiation in AK.
