I used to live near a retarded woman who didnt even register at the intellect of a child. They let her have an apartment and live on her own

She would walk up and down a same stretch of sidewalk all day long and then go home to sleep, wake up and do it again

She was always pregnant, Her retardation didnt allow her the know how to protect herself. Men would always go in and out of her apartment like a revolving door, she would always get pregnant

The State took away each kid, but shed get pregnant again, She didnt even know what her body was doing. I asked, you having a baby? She would look at me confused and say, "No, Im just fat"

She had kid after kid after kid, I knew she was pregnant four times when I lived near her. And she was pregnant before then, I dont know how many kids she had total but it was a lot.

I will never agree to poverty as being a reason for sterilization, but retardation is a case for. You can climb out of poverty (one of my state Governors grew up in a large family of poverty) but retardation is tragically permanent.

The panel recommended that the money go to verified, living victims, including those who are alive now but may die before the lawmakers approve any compensation.

I'd like to add a personal experience in regards to forced sterilization. I lived in a major city in NC. Already had two children that were born while I had a good job and maternity insurance. When I became pregnant the third time, my husband had gone blind from diabetes and I had been laid-off from my job because my youngest son had too many ear infections forcing me to stay home.

Because of these conditions, I went in to beg for state assistance and signed up at the "state clinic" in order to have my child's birth paid for. One of the workers at the clinic informed me that because of my age (34) and the fact that I already had two kids, I would be required to consent to tubal ligation after this third child or I would not receive the state funds. No, they didn't drag me into surgery against my will, and no, I have not been on welfare, ever, and no I am not black. The point is, they "intimidated" me into it. I was afraid not to consent to sterilization because I needed their help so badly. In my opinion, this was "forced sterilization" and I should have been included in this payout that's going now.

The records are kept with the North Carolina Department of Health. All you have to do is send a notarized verification form with your name and address at the time you had the procedure, and they will check it against the 7000+ names to let you know if you are included. The time-line looked a little "off" to me too. This was going-on for a very longtime, and yes, I agree with you that you were coerced, and the report mentions people in exactly your position who will be receiving the token payment.

Sterilization and Eugenics is a good program and should be dramatically increased. Nobody should be allowed to have more than two kids, and there should also be mandatory intelligence tests to determine whether or not a person has the mental capacity to procreate. Those on the top of the list are the mentally retarded, people with genetic diseases and j3ws...basically stupid people in general. We are in the midst of a world population explosion that will only get worse. The problems that result from this is exponentially grievous to say the least.

Sterilization in this capacity was common practice in this and other countries in the past. FDR was a proponent. Hitler also saw the benefits resulting from it. Two "ladies" were standing in front of me with, oh, Id guess a minimum of 10 kids running around everywhere between the two of them...One "lady" is talking to the other one and she says this. "Jermaine turning 18 next year, he gonna age out. I guess Im gonna have to get pregnant again to keep that money coming in" You know who paid for their grocerys..YOU DID AMERICA. I seen the little foodstamp card come right out. Know who paid for mine? I did...out of my paycheck that I worked for. Should people have the right to reproduce, absolutely. Should I have the right, not to financially support this kind of tripe? Ya damn skippy. Money comes out of my paycheck every week to support this trash. You think this was an isolated incident?
