Those who justify war deserve the pain of war. Most war is a pretext to stealing resources and land. Whipping the populace into a supportive frenzy is the job of the media and politicians. False claims (WMDs, etc) and the like, coupled with constant nationalistic droning cover the real issue. It's probably been just like that since the beginning.
Man has generally been duped somehow into accepting all this as normal behavior....

True, i would like to see the world leaders that start them put their necks on the line. I have a feeling that that would end a lot of pointless wars. Not all wars are rackets though (granted, the ones now-a-days are). The war profiteering is not a result of war, but a result of people. In most events, some people look to set up rackets to take advantage of the situation. This could be something as simple as opening an icecream stand on a hot day and charging $5 per bar or fake inflation at gas stations during a disaster. Pardon my language, but people are assholes and many would gladly take advantage of their neighboor for their own personal gain. I am not saying this is right, just how i see it. It would only be natural to see this kind of profiteering in war.

As a side note, innocents usually are the largest number of casualties in war, past and present. The sacking of cities are usually not peaceful affairs. One thing i have noticed when reading history is that no matter how powerful an army or advanced the tech, it can not stand up to a population that is pissed off. The Roman army was incredibly advanced for its time, yet they lost 3 legions to poorly equipped German peasant army in the Teutoburg Forests in 7AD. The reason armies use such nasty weaponry is to incite fear rather then anger. If it does not have the desired effect and angers the populations, the attacking army will not win.

I don't know what Flir is, a google search pulled up IR imaging. As for the other nasty weapons... i believe it takes more of an analytical mind rather then a sick one to make them. The people that design them just think about %s of improvements, not about the effects. Anyway, nasty weaponry has been around for centuries. How to you think the first people who were on the receiving end of a trebuchet felt? Hell, the bow was considered an "evil" weapon for its time with the Catholic church declaring it is to be only used on non Christian armies.

So you are against it because it destroys culture. Are you against all things that destroy culture? What of the culture that are spawned from war? Many great works of art and wonderful literary works are inspired by it. Would you be against sending people into another culture and "civilizing" them? You talk about destruction of works of art, what do you consider art? Art is a very subjective thing. There are people who view war as an art, who see beauty in a bombshells explosion. Would you wish to force upon them your idea of art and destroy it (buy not having it happen)?

I am not looking to offend. I just don't really know the answer and i find i think better asking questions and debating.

I agree with your every point except that War has no winners. The evil scum that start these wars always profit and in their evil eyes, that means they win. Note how the "leaders" are always kept in all their creature comforts down to the finest liquors, no matter how hard it is for everyone else to scrape by eating out of garbage cans. But they are so important to the "war" that we keep them like whores, the war couldn't possibly be won without them. ugh.

Great post! thanks for your reply. I see you think more logically, than emotionally. I am an emotional being and always fight hard for the underdog. :) Sometimes to a fault, I'll be the first to admit.

Well, yes, I guess I am against all things that destroy an entire culture and try to obliterate it as if it never was, this is a very important aspect of war. So that the "winners" can rewrite all the history they want.

The giant Buddah statues that were destroyed in Afghanistan by Bin Laden and his men is a great example of the ugliness of war. Then the looting of the Iraq Museum was another such travesty. If war did not exist, we wouldn't have to worry about such destruction of culture. Cultures should evolve in a non-violent manner, but destroying what came before, for the purpose of telling the lie that it never was, is not the way to a peaceful life or a peaceful ending.

Of course, many times, the warriors do not succeed in wiping out the culture or all of the artifacts and it lives on as a shadow of itself.

I do not consider war an art form and do not believe art in any form should be mentally and physically painful to small children and other innocent people who wanted no part of it.

I am sorry too for all the atrocities our country/military has put upon peoples of the world. Americans' ignorance is no excuse, but there are many of us who disdain and are horrified by the things we are finally learning about. OP is correct in showing us the horrors that are committed under the auspices of war. Most Americans are sheilded from this, purposefully. Will it end badly? I hope not, because if America falls, I fear the whole world falls, too. So please don't be too quick to condemn America and Americans. We may just be the last chance. Let us instead, pray for peace and justice to prevail.

There's a whole parade of them.. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Pearle, then Obama took over and it's business as usual, makes my head spin. This goes back further than just those 2 pres. Clinton did his share of rights stealing when he was in office, too. Okla. City gave him a great excuse. And he was fond of attacking other countries and meddling in foreign affairs.
