Why are black people such bad tippers?

It is obvious that you have an agenda. It is also obvious that you aren't able to hold a conversation without being vulgar. But this is common among people that lack the skills to debate effectively.


Most states tipped employees are paid 1/2 of the minimum wage.

And in a typical shift they work two hours out of eight prepping for that night's customers or cleaning up and balancing their books when it's over.

So that's 8 hours of minimum wage working, 6 of them with tipping customers.

ETA: And that's not counting the tips we have to give out to the bartenders, hosts, etc IF we want good service from THEM next time.

Do you know what happens every time the minimum wage is raised 15 cents or so?

The first place you see it is at McDonald's. Your $1.25 Cola is now $1.35.

Not to mention out of that small increase the govt gets a few extra pennies of tax out of the employees paycheck and a few extra pennies out of the employer on his payroll tax.

And as a former small business owner, I was the LAST to get paid-and that wasn't very often. I was at my business- NOT the beach.

Working 70 and 80 hour weeks, knowing that you most likely won't get paid but you'll have damned happy employees carrying home $100+ bucks of tip money after a 6-7 hour shift?

When balancing your payroll accounts and seeing that the majority of your employees don't even cash their measly payroll checks of $150 for a couple of months says something.

So to hell with it. Whatever Walmart didn't put out of business, let it go ahead and take the rest,write off all their expenses and call it a day.

The jobs aren't coming back. Ever. Anyone who things they are are in huge denial.

You can't say that as an absolute truth. Local, State and Fed goverments are overrun with with black employees who make very good wages....and do hardly any work because those jobs were "owed" to them.

Culture. They're not from a culture that goes out all the time to restaurants to eat so are not really aware of the importance of tipping.

Isnt that the truth. I had a friend who was VERY intoxicated trying to order two dozen wings over the phone but demanding they all be drumsticks. Was yelling at them and everything. His woman went and picked the wings up. I warned him not to order them after he yelled but his dumn girlfriend told me to stop telling him.

Blame Eric Holder (Obama's soon-to-be "ex" Attorney General).
He's the one who said on about day 2 of O's administration that blacks and whites should be discussing matters.

How much are you gonna tip the guard who brings you your meal in your cell, Mr. Holder?

Now this is back in the mid eighties when I managed a hotel in the Mid-West....

But I was in charge of the housekeeping division aswell as the other departments. Luckily I had a GREAT Housekeeping Manager- RIP, BJ- so I was never that involved but I can't imagine those girls doing that.


The department was made up of about 50% Indian, 25% black and 25% white.


The only two incidents I still remember make me laugh:

1. A Hispanic maid accidentally spilled a bottle of very expensive woman's cologne while cleaning the vanity area and panic'd that she'd be fired so she filled the remainder of the bottle with water.

I couldn't stop laughing when BJ brought her to my office.

Hey, accidents happen. That's why we have insurance.

The guest came back to her room with a newly wrapped bottle of the same perfume and a note of apology written by the maid.

Those were some GOOD girls and I can't see them doing that to each other.

Boy, those were good times. Of course Regan was in charge and we knew we were safe.

Sigh.

I think that was true at one time- not even that long ago.

But I don't even think this younger generation of teenagers knows that it is considered proper to offer a seat on a bus to a standing elderly person or a pregnant woman, to hold open the door for the person coming in behind you, or much less to use statements such as, "May I please have $40 of gasoline?" instead of, "Give me $40 of gas."

Very sad.

It could be a regional thing, though.

I still can't get over how kind people are to each other here than in Vegas.

The other day a woman backed her car out slightly after I had started to. No big deal.

Would you believe she parked her car, came after me and apologized, saying she hadn't seen me and she was very sorry.

Kids at Walmart (YOUNG kids-5 or 6 years old) are constantly saying "excuse me" if we're turning corners at the same time and miss a collision.

Teenage boys will stop and offer assistance if a woman is having car trouble.

Well, I can't read 15 pages of this thread today because I am freaking buried at the office. BUT, I'm gonna put my 2 cents in and agree with the "black people are terrible tippers" peeps. And the black people I deal with via my company are almost exclusively no-tippers. Not just bad, no tip. And these people are spending an average of $900+ with me. Won't tip my staff. Now we pay our staff well so they don't live on their tips, but they work their asses OFF for all of our clients. No tips from blacks. We try to spread the black parties around amongst the staff so nobody gets them all the time.

It's cultural. It is that they are not taught to tip. When we are making reservations with them, we always tell them about tipping, and they are all like "what?" I think some of them don't even know what a tip is.

Memphis use to have this convention every year called COGIC. It's some religious event for mostly African Americans. I know on the news and just hearing people talk, most hotel and restaurant owners and employees hated it. Poor tippers, bounced checks (most places now will not accept checks without pre-approval) rude and in some cases, damages to rooms and property. Thousands came in for the week-long event. It has since moved to St. Louis. Many restaurant and hotel personnel in Memphis, were glad they left.

They are hell on my party buses. Last night they trashed one of them- chicken wings all over the floor, tobacco where they unrolled their cigars and put pot in them (of course then we won't let them smoke it- dumbasses- we aren't above the law). It was quite the cleaning job this morning.

I don't take checks from anyone unless it's a corporate client or a school.

I said in my initial post it was only once that I was treated really badly by 4 angry black women and that about 90% of the blacks I served treated me well.

Of course, it was in a very nice showroom on the Strip where Gladys Knight was the headliner.

So naturally you had people attending at high ticket prices for a great show. She's the last living legend of Vegas besides ugly Wayne newton, in my opinion.

You know, you get to where black, white, green or purple you can see attitudes beforehand and pretty much know.

Yes, I've been stiffed by rude whites but never treated so horribly by ANYONE as that one group.

As a matter of fact, they were scowling like Michele Obama does most days when I approached the table and their looks didn't change one iota throughout the show.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well.

We worked 7-8 hours and during that time we had the opportunity to make tips for about 2 of those hours.

The rest of the time we spent setting up linens, glassware, working in a 100 degree bar station that barely had room for the 8 girls and two (sometimes only 1 bartender) which had to serve a showroom that seated 800- constantly full.

Afterward we cleaned, washed, put things away (like the damned olives

We were allowed to only enter the showroom at certain times so as not to affect the atmosphere, climb flights of stairs carrying a 30 pound tray of drinks in heels, crawl on the floor even, if we happened to be anywhere near the stage so as not to obstruct the views, collect payment and give the right change by holding a flashlight in our mouth pointing towards our bank.... that's only the beginning.

In fact, a night never went by that girls weren't bursting out crying backstage, glass were breaking all over the floor, people were paying for a $2 drink with a credit card that we were forced to use on an antiquated system that didn't work half the time.

Most girls went out and drank after work. I went home and started writing a book in order to take out my frustrations. It became a hit on my blog and other Casino Presidents and employees were constantly coming in to meet me.

Even several guests would call me over, saying they had read my blog from whatever state they were from and wanted a picture of me.

I couldn't publish that book then, but I'm thinking of doing so now.

Gladys won't sue me. Harrah's treated her worse than they treated us.

But back to the money. Yes, it was good money IF you were a good waitress. But one mistake (like giving back too much change in the dark or dropping a hundred dollar bill as you walked away and it actually COST you to work that insanity.

On the night of the 4 angry women, I made $2 from the table I served next to them. It just wasn't worth it to keep going back. It pissed off the others who would have liked to be served every time they saw me.

I was always kind to every person in that place and that's the truth.

And the majority treated me kindly back.

After taxes, had we made no mistakes and after tipping 20% to the bartender we usually took home about $100 cash. Or about $15 an hour.

Yes, it was good money but I fractured an ankle once and wasn't compensated due to something in the contract.

Two managers died of heart attacks in a 6 month period.

I'd never do it again. It was worth every penny for the $$$.

If you want I'll post one of my night's journal entries. I tried to keep them humorous. It's the only way I stayed sane.

You should know by now, They aren't capable of doing anything good.

That reminds me. Whenever I'm driving in Harlem or the Bronx and the light is green for me, red for pedestrians, invariably there will be black people crossing against the light, strolling almost in slow motion (knowing they don't have the light), while cars are coming in their direction. I think they do it on purpose.
