The most common cause is dehydration. Keep the dog in a quiet dark place until the seizure passes the make sure water is available and that it drinks. Some dogs get so "caught up in it" that they forget to drink so keep the dog away from distractions such as other dogs, kids, or food until it drinks.

1. Did dog consume any poisons, e.g., pot, chocolate, etc.?

2. Do you have any activated charcoal around?

3. You need to give us all a hell of a lot more info or you're just wasting time...

My thoughts are with you Op as I have dealt with this with one of my dogs. Like the other poster suggested, remove the dog to a dark room and remain calm. I know it can be a very scary situation rendering you helpless. Good Luck

YOU are absolutely WRONG. Pot will KILL A DOG. I had to take my dog to an emergency vet to the tune of $800 because my wife's stupid brother brought spiked brownies into the house in his bags -- dog got into it -- dog dropped over and went into convulsions -- emergency vets said it was a good thing the dog came in else it would have been DEAD BY MORNING.

That's a FACT, JACK, so STFU!! You've been schooled.

You might add the dog's age & breed, whether it has been around anything toxic like radiator fluid or spoiled food, do you have neighbors that don't like the dog for barking, etc. (possible poisoning,) also has it had regular bowel/bladder movements in the last day, or is it drooling.

Initially I would suggest trying to keep the dog hydrated with water, perhaps adding some beef or chicken stock to encourage it to drink more. If you are more than sure it might be poison of some sort a few tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide poured down its throat will induce vomiting.

If the dog is under about 8-10 y/o then you might consider adding a little (1/4 tablespoon) of baking soda to the broth/water combo, also 1/8th teaspoon of salt to cover electrolytes. The baking soda can neutralize any acidic conditions.

I'm a layperson that formerly was a Vet's assistant--however there is no substitute for a professional opinion and you try any of the above at your own risk. In many vet hospitals a dog brought in after hours won't be seen by a vet until the next morning, unless it is a 24 hour emergency type.

I'm of the opinion that if you think it might be close to fatal condition give them some energizing treat they will like and eat like meat cuts or scrambled eggs, because the extra quality energy might help pull them through, and if they are having something fatal like a stroke at least they had some pleasure on the way out. Good luck.

Put a warm cloth over your dog. Cold weather jams the body sometimes. Start a fire near your dog.

Pot can be an anti seizure med. The drug can be placed on a dogs tongue via a liquid or inhaled vaporizor.

See a vet as soon as possible.

i have a border collie who suffered from seizures. i have found that anything with annatto and red 40 will give her a seizure. some dog foods and people foods have this such as cheddar cheese. please check all ingredients for these two ingredients. since then she is free of seizures. the only time she will get one is if i mistakenly have given her something with this. alot of dog foods have red40 and annatto.

Hello I am practiced in alchemical healing herbalistic medicine.

Much of Alchemy actually leads us to Nutrition.

Seizures are often a symptom of a Deficiency.

Western medicine treats symptoms by acting against the symptom like trying to block it.

But a more homeopathic approach is to address the problem and the cause of the symptom.

Your pet is having problems with his brain its probably a simple Amino Acid deficiency.
