Then, read: Brave New World Revisited. In a lot of ways, we have already exceeded the nightmares depicted in that "fictional" story. Real Eyes, Realize, Real Lies..... Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. ~H. L. Mencken~ We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. ~Plato~ When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. ~Dresden James~ |

Not to mention all the other meds and recreational drugs pushed on people.. |

Everything in this material world is a metaphor. It's fractal. |

Particularly his brother Julian, first director of UNesco. "Political unification in some sort of world government will be required... Even though... any radical eugenic policy will be for many years politically and psychologically impossible, it will be important for UNESCO to see that the eugenic problem is examined with the greatest care, and that the public mind is informed of the issues at stake so that much that now is unthinkable may at least become thinkable." Esoteric Morgan ...in awe of many things User ID: 3539589 United States 01/13/2012 07:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Great thread. How I missed Huxley's books is a mystery, but then, I went to catholic school...perhaps they only wanted us to see the fear side of things (i.e.:1984.) Last spring I finally got an android phone. To may dismay, I immediately got to see just how devious the bugger is. Google's world has charmed users into interconnecting every facet of their lives in the fluffy-cloud topping of a grand data-mining scheme. Try to save a youtube video or link to facebook if you don't agree to sync your accounts...won't happen. The system is designed to give you 'everything' your heart desires--as long as you sign away your privacy. Perhaps I might have softened, had I not realized that on this very convenient android, google seach results seem to have become terribly stingy in the info it provides you. Being an avid and clever researcher of info on my pc, it also became immediately evident that someone is choosing what they perfer you find. So, I desist. Probably doesn't matter, but, for me it's become a matter of principle. Stubborn, am I? Can't help it. Blame orwell. In a thanksgiving conversation with my younger tech brother, he basically told me I was nuts, that these sync thingys were 100% private and safe. Not what I expected to hear, and, not at all believable. Why would I want to have my bank and credit accounts--and their passwords--on my person, in a world where anywhere I go, someone can 'grab it' just by my being somewhere they can read it? Am I being overly cautious here? Which led me into a very short conversation with my 21 yr-old son shortly thereafter. I was exclaiming how in "1984" Orwell portrayed a time when, against our will, TPTB would know know everything you say or do, yet, here we are, in 2011, eagerly doing this of our own volition...thrilled to be so connected, and, happy to post updates to the world what we are doing, eating, planning, feeling and thinking. He laughed, and walked away. Means nothing to him. He loves the idea of depositing a check into his account by taking a pix and pressing 'send.' He looks forward to using his phone at the checkout. After all, IT IS the modern world. Even though I've paid ALL of my bills online for years, I am very careful about security issues. As far as this phone, though, I really have much less control than i'd like. So, I can see how desensitized we have become. Instant grats rules the day. I like some of that, but, it must be within reason. Ha! Thanks for the thread, and the great links it has led to. It is a fascinating thought that we are held in place through perceived pleasures, no real pleasures and as Huxley says we ought not be controlled by others through pleasure! I look at the time I spend on this fucking computer clicking away at this and that sipping vodka munching on biscuits, looking up at the TV for a moment before remembering a song that I can find on YouTube, going through friends photos on facebook, wondering what they think of me when they look at my photos, sad sad sad. I walk out and watch the trees in the wind and wonder how I can get back to enjoying that? |
