Residential schools is a horrific part of Canada's history. Most Canadians don't even know much about it. Native kids were taken from reserves and institutionalized. Their parents weren't allowed to visit them. If they spoke their native language, they were beaten. Many were sexually assaulted, tortured, murdered, taken away from their parents through adoptions overseas. A whole generation lost from their parents, culture.
