Ecuador has currently 3 active volcanoes within his borders. The 3 following volcanoes showed increased activity the last couple of days : Reventador, Tungurahua and Sangay.
Costa Rica / Turrialba activity
Technical and scientific agencies have increased surveillance and security measures in the Turrialba Volcano National Park yesterday, this due to the recent activity of the volcano which started on January 12. Authorities and the different specialized divisions have been meeting on what to do if the situation would deteriorate.
CNE (Comisión Nacional de Prevención de Riesgos y Atención de Emergencias) has called the YELLOW ALERT status for the following towns and villages in the direct vicinity of the volcano : Turrialba, Alvarado and Jiménez. Additionally CNE called a GREEN ALERT for the cantons of Cartago and Oreamuno. $$$$$ $$$$$
Update : The initial Thursday activity has halted on Friday. The temperature of the fumaroles was again down to 400 °C (median for the last couple of months) versus 550 °C on Thursday during the stronger activity.
Chile-Argentina / Cordon Caulle / flights
Aerolinas Argentinas made the first commercial flight yesterday to San Carlos de Bariloche. The flights were suspended for more than 7 months due to the massive volcanic eruption of the Chilean Cordon Caulle volcano across the border. The Argentine town of San Carlos de Bariloche was hard hit because of the prevailing western winds.
