They pass all the day in this... i think they will revise all the data later and post ad it when they are 100% shure... it's not the first time they do it...

to keep an eye on things, when you think something interesting is showing on these charts, right click it, and 'save as' in a folder on your desktop. mine's called 'katla quakes'. all sorts in there, in separate folders.

the more of us that do this, the more likely we spot things.

for instance, i have been saving the God tremor chart daily, and made a gif of it the other day..

That's a good idea, normaly i only save the events... but i will do it in future.

If Katla blows this year it will be the final nail in Europe's coffin !

I can't even begin to imagine what a strong eruption will do to our, already fragile, economy ! A few months without air travel and one or two years without a proper summer will seal the deal for Europe and cause a massive food shortage !

But of course, this is just speculation, nobody really knows when it will blow...been waiting for it to go for 2 years now.

Every time when a new lava flow emerges, visitors in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and surrounding areas flock to lava flow area, sometimes trekking miles to see molten lava pouring into the ocean, as it was over the winter holidays. Some 150 miles of hiking trails across and around older lava flows in the 333,086-acre park — more than half of which is designated wilderness — also draw many explorers. “Hikers need to be aware of the dangers of the volcano and need to know that SAR (search and rescue) missions take time, and that launching a helicopter in the dark or in inclement weather is extremely dangerous.

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Hawaii Island early Friday morning. The tremor was centered three miles from Kilauea volcano and is the largest of more than 100 small quakes in a swarm that started early Wednesday morning. Hawaii Island residents were awakened at 3:52 a.m. by the sound of books falling to the floor. "This is the kind of event when you feel it, you feel like a truck just hit your house and it's a fairly quick jolt and then it's gone," says Wes Thelen, the Seismic Network Manager for the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. "But that quick jolt can obviously knock things off shelves and rattle dishes pretty loudly." Scientists say the 4.3 magnitude earthquake was about 24 miles southwest of Hilo. It came nearly seven hours after a 4.1 magnitude quake struck the same area last night. "Both quakes were felt island wide," says Thelen. And both struck on land so there was no tsunami danger. Staff at the USGS Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory reported small ceiling fixtures being dislodged.

Scientists say other than a small rock fall in an active vent within Halema'uma'u Crater at the summit of Kilauea, there were no immediate reports of damage. The earthquakes are located along a fault near the boundary between Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes. The area has seen previous seismic swarms in 1990, '93, '97 and 2006. "Each of those swarms had magnitude 4's associated with them," says Thelen. "The fault that this is occuring on really isn't capable of a much larger event. It would have to be another structure, deeper." Scientists say seismic swarms sometimes signal a shift in the decades-old eruption in Kilauea's east rift zone but so far monitoring networks have not shown any changes. "We haven't seen any indication that the magma system at Kilauea or at Mauna Loa has changed at all with respect to these earthquakes," says Thelen. When asked if the increased activity has had an affect on animals? "I have not received any reports," says Thelen. "There are stories that people tell and such that indicate that there may be some connection but it's never been proven scientifically." Scientists believe this latest swarm could continue for several days. The last one in 2006, lasted nearly three weeks.

My Icelandish friend, i understand you are used to it, but when we, continental europeans saw the Eyjafjallajökull eruption with all the concequences of it we become scared... and you know that Iceland itself is a time bomb! A Laki tipe eruption is a very very scaring thing!

The Mid Atlantic Ridge in in a decompression phase now, so one could assume the plates Iceland sits between are drifting apart at a greater speed than usually.
That probably explains much of the EQ activity lately, like the ones at Veidivotn.

Every time this happens it increases the possibility for fissure eruptions.
I think the areas to watch over the next months would be Bardarbunga and the NE area, like Krafla and Theistareykjabunga.

Puyehue-Cordón Caulle, Chile

The eruption at Puyehue-Cordón Caulle has been puffing along for almost 10 months now with no real signs that it will be coming to a close soon. This NASA Earth Observatory image (above) captures the extent of ash cover in the area near the active vent, but remember, ash from this eruption was spread over much of southern South America (in some places, likely only a few millimeters thick). Trying to estimate how much material was erupted during the last 10 months is tricky because of this dispersal of ash. However, by mapping the thickness of the ash around the volcano and in the outlying regions, volcanologists can make isopach maps that estimate the thickness of ash over a given area, which can then be used to estimate the total volume of ash produced. Another cool feature of this image is that it shows just how complete the volcanic region at Puyehue-Cordón Caulle is, with the Puyehue caldera to the south and the multitude of lava flows and domes related to Cordón Caulle to the north.

The Red Sismológica
Nacional (RSN) indicates that an eruption occurred on Rincon de la Vieja (Costa Rica) Thursday February 23rd
between 4:00 am and 4:30 am. In
addition, seismological records confirm that the volcano had two other
eruptions this month, on Sunday February 19th (12:16 am) and Monday February 20th (12:46 am). There have been no reported consequences associated with the
activity.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports the Kaoiki seismic swarm continues about three miles Northwest of Halemaumau Crater with increased activity overnight with two magnitude 4+ earthquakes Friday (Feb 24). As of 7:15 a.m. Friday 78 earthquakes were recorded in the previous 24 hours with 74 of these were related to the earthquake swarm, two were in the upper East rift zone and two were on the South flank faults. None of these earthquakes are strong enough to create a tsunami.

A restless volcano in northern Indonesia erupted Friday, spewing clouds of ash as high as 2 kilometers into the sky, the country's National Disaster Management Agency said. The authorities are warning residents to stay away from the volcano, Mt. Lokon, in North Sulawesi, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the disaster management agency. A 2.5 kilometer exclusion zone had already been set up around Mt. Lokon, which had been showing signs of activity in recent days. A series of eruptions by Mt. Lokon in July prompted the evacuation of thousands of local residents. The volcano also erupted in October and December. Indonesia is located on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of fault lines circling the Pacific Basin that is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

A super volcano “grows” in the South according to scientists Bolivia

International scientists are studying the changes posed by Uturuncu volcano, located in Bolivia near the border between Chile and Argentina, since satellite measurements show that the mountain has been growing at a rate of 1.3 centimeters per year in the last two decades. This suggests that the mountain, whose last eruption occurred about 300,000 years ago, could be accumulating a new big bang.

Scientific information dates back to the Uturuncu as a semidormido volcano, because it presents Active fumaroles, and certain measures give a report that rises of 1 to 2 cm per year. With its 6.008 meters above sea level, is the highest in the South of Bolivia and the Department of Potosí.

It is close gaps of colors such as the Celeste lagoon, laguna Colorada and laguna Verde and the Salar de Uyuni. It is probably the mountain of more than 6,000 meters more easy to achieve in the world because of its geomorphological features.

“The size and longevity of the increase is unprecedented.” “We could be witnessing the development of a new Super-volcano,” said Kuprinka Silva, Oregon State University geologist who studied the Uturuncu, since 2006.

According to published newspaper The New York Times, the eruption of the Bolivian volcano, which has a population of 69 kilometers of rocky soil, could expel ash and pumice forcefully one thousand times larger than the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in the State of Washington and is the worst event in the history of the United States volcanic.

It would also be ten thousand times greater than the eruptions that occurred in 2010 in Iceland, which for weeks paralysed international air traffic.

The planet has between 30 and 40 Super-volcanoes, only 10 of them are potentially active and Super eruptions occur only once every 100,000 years approximately.

It is believed that the last was in Sumatra when erupted volcano Toba, 74 thousand years ago. That event would have expelled ash in sufficient quantities to cause a “volcanic winter”, with a duration of 6 to 10 years, a period of global cooling of a thousand years, and with a loss of life so great that the event could have changed the course of human evolution.

ERUPTION

Jacob B. Lowenstern, geologist and geochemical researcher at the geological survey of United States, told the same medium that by now “not you see no evidence of imminent eruption of a super volcano on Earth”.

However, the gradual growth of the Uturuncu makes it fertile ground for his study. “Is like a tumor growing within the Earth and we must know whether it is benign or malignant,” he declared Kuprinka de Silva.

The Uturuncu was already considered potentially active. There in the upper part of the slope, 2,400 meters are small holes in the ground with sulphur fumaroles that release hot gases, which are evidence of the existence of a source of heat close to the surface.

An international team of seismologists, geologists, geophysicists, and other experts for a research project called “Plutons” which studies the Uturuncu volcano was formed in 2009.
