Do you think that is because there is NO BAD EFFECTS on Americans? I have been told by two mainstream science journalists based in the USA, that there is a total ban on reporting just how bad the situation is to Americans - let alone the poor Japs. Think about it, you have radioactive shit pouring into the air and ocean every single day, and it is going to be that way for many years to come. That radioactive shit is now all over the northern hemisphere, and will cause zillions of extra cancer deaths. Would you rather be told about it and live in fear, or would you rather be told about how Katy Perry got divorced recently? You ask how bad Fukushima is - it is almost as bad as it gets. |

Dear AC, why do you persist in the ridiculous? If people in Japan are fine, just tell us that. Or, are you afraid of the truth? Actually, I don't believe that any of us fully know the truth. Some of us are interested in what others who are more knowledgable have to say. Do you have knowledge that you would care to be serious about and tell us? Everything is fine and people go on with their day to day lives with no problems? Nothing to worry about. Tepco is going to fix the problem and it will all go away. Is that what you believe? |

It doesn't appear that you have > 1 servient dosage in the area surrounding the site, otherwisse, people would be dropping like flies from radiation poisoning. While I understand that there's a media blackout, at a certain point it becomes next to impossible to cover-up mass casualties. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 8678114 United States 01/15/2012 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Humans evolved to be afraid of things they don't understand. Most people don't understand radiation and so they are irrationally afraid of it. They do what primitive people do to explain things they can't understand - they make up myths and fairy tales to explain and justify their fears. At the time of Fukushima I made it clear that it wasn't a big deal, I have studied radiation and radiation poisoning prior to the incident, and was constantly told by the anti-nuclear fear-mongers that I was stupid, a shill, etc, etc. It is hard to fight millions of years of evolution. Try to keep that in mind when people tell you to be afraid of things - global warming, pesticides, etc, etc. You will naturally be afraid of things you don't really understand. People will use that fear to manipulate you. |

And the more urgent the issue, the more people want to remain unaware, according to a paper published online in APA’s Journal of Personality and Social Psychology®. “These studies were designed to help understand the so-called ‘ignorance is bliss’ approach to social issues,” said author Steven Shepherd, a graduate student with the University of Waterloo in Ontario. “The findings can assist educators in addressing significant barriers to getting people involved and engaged in social issues.” Through a series of five studies conducted in 2010 and 2011 with 511 adults in the United States and Canada, the researchers described “a chain reaction from ignorance about a subject to dependence on and trust in the government to deal with the issue.” [link to www.apa.org] |
