If the universe is finite, than infinity does not exist.
Only very large numbers.

A circle is still an infinite loop.

No, a circle is just a shape.

A path around a circle is a loop.

To travel an infinite distance, there must be infinite time.

In order to have infinite time, you must have infinite space.

Infinity is just another term for 1.
3 infinities plus 2 infinities is 5 infinities.

the CREATION is not finite, it continuously grows so do all the various universes within it. this is to good measure but not totally related to all the thinking going on.

I meant infinity is a term for something approaching 1 (but never reaching it) but you can use infinity again like a 1.
This comes from fractals.

To put it simply, OP, infinity is a concept. You can't hold it in your hand, or point to it and say, "This is infinity."

to suppose that there is but 1 universe would indeed belie infinity. however to accept a multiverse would reopen the question.

Who said that the universe is finite? I would like to know who has traveled to its ends and discovered this fact!

In your thread title you write "If," what evidence or thought of mind lends you to questioning the finite or infinite state of the universe?

I, personally, am of the (unpopular) thought of mind - no evidence - that the universe is finite.

Heck, even the Infinity sign itself is a closed symbol. It sure doesn't intellectually inspire visions of boundlessness for me, and does quite the opposite.

You see, what we have with that symbol is a twisted circle, and wherein symbols may be viewed as "coding" - physical or cognitive - that one tells a tale that has nothing to do with infinity...at least not as a descriptor of existence.

Anyhoo, I got a group of university professors I cook for every Sunday, gotta run in a few minutes, but thank for for the replies.

I will check this thread later this evening when I get back, feel free to admonish me or add random thoughts on the matter.

Thanks,

Isaac

Well, let us know what the math and philosophy professors have to say on the subject. Astronomy and physics would be good, too.

you want to know the only thing that is finite?? the box in which your mind dwells and limits it self to.. that is what is finite.. that being said.. step out of the box in which you think and then maybe you may understand the answers and receive the questions you seek..

You are correct!

If the universe is finite, then infinity does not exist.

However if the universe is infinite then eternity begins in you.

Lets throw a spanner in the works, "God is the Alpha and the Omega".

The beginning and the end.
