South Sudan, Libya and Nigeria have massive sweet crude deposits. 4.Ivory Coast has coffee and cocoa. (It is also a waypoint for Afgan opium/heroine) 5.Uganda is the gateway to the rare Coltan deposits in eastern DRC. Whats Coltan? [link to en.wikipedia.org] Its all about comodities and oil security, both for US domestic consumption and the ability to deny China access to these resources.
