Ender's Game novel...what did you think of it?
I really wanted to love Ender's Game.

I read it recently for the first time after hearing so much about it over the years. I'd always heard that it's a window into how gifted kids think, but Ender and his siblings are some of the least colorful characters I've ever come across...quite different from the gifted kids I know. I found the story disjointed and hard to read.

I'm just curious if I'm the lone weirdo who didn't care for it!

Read the entire series then go back and read Ender's Game again. Orson Scott Card is a great writer. The movie is going to be released soon.

I read it when it came out as a short story and all of the other Ender books as they came out. They make you tink about responsisbility.

Some of Card's other stuff like his mysteries are good too. Read Lost Boys.

That was one aspect that I liked...Ender's inner conflict between the peaceful, normal kid he wants to be and the killer he's being groomed to become.

Thanks for the reading suggestions...I'll have to look into those!

I met and talked with Orson Scott Card back in the summer of '93. He said that Ender represented innocent yet informed judgement free from the constraints of duality....free to choose evil if the ends justify the means. The main point was that absolute objectivity can only be established ABOVE the human moral compunction.....brilliant man and brilliant book.

I was in those "gifted" classes when I was younger I.Q. of 150 yadda yadda who cares, I still have no job and live with my parents lol.

But, personally I loved the book. Life is a game, but a game played seriously. That book is one of my favorites of all-time. The talk about getting on message boards and how that shapes political ideas of their day really draws alot of parallels to how things are today dont you think? It is a deep book with a great message and story IMO. speaker for the dead was just ok.

If you want a more exciting read go for the Diamond Age, or a Young Lady's illustrated Primer. Despite the title, it is an excellent cyberpunk novel that sets the bar for the genre.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy was good( I only mention it because I see Zaphod as your avatar, but you have to admit it is written in a childish, young adult style. A really fun book tho!

So, who's looking forward to the new film?

Is it not all a bit MKUltra WarSimGameKids like?

I thought it was bollocks. Eon, Immortality Inc, Dune, Anything by Silverberg, Bob Shaw, much better.
