Actually, this is nothing new...it really started back in the 30's with Anton Boisen, a chaplain who started working with pastors in a mental health hospital. The techniques that are taught today are called parallel process. It is the basis of all clinical pastoral training. But because it is in the realm of pastoral care, many people ignore it.
