That's just what I tried to tell those of my relatives who voted Democrat (shudders...) and they just don't get it. And they're educated people too who know something of history and must know that governments never give back power that they took; it always has to be taken back from them by force, forever and ever, amen.

They actually believed that soon as the Dems got majority, they were going to repeal the misnamed 'patriot act.'

The SOPA and PIPA bills are and always will be total confirmation that congress is in the pocket of big business, and are their puppets.

had to do a complete reformat for some weird reason , but Im back now and have had a quick look at the general direction that this thread has been tending to.

a couple of thoughts

It seems like there are a few posters on here that are having a few issues with the blackout protests
They for the most seem to feel like these type of actions are pretty worthless, the attitude could be best summed up as..what will it do..we are just little insignificant no-bodies that cant make any real difference!

well, just to give some of those folks some positive encouragement I think that they might find some really excellent examples of just what can happen when people get together in numbers even if it is on the internet as individuals and alighn themselves to a common cause.

For the most recent and dramatic examples here I think a quick look at what has happened to the governments in Lybia, Egypt, etc, etc might be a good place to start.

We really do live in a new world and the old regimes and their repressive ways are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

This even extends to this simple protest.

All you have to do is to imagine what the world would be like if say internet speeds were slowed to a tenth of where they are today.

World commerce would pretty quickly grind into another GFC, and that would just be the start of things.

we live in an instantaneous world these days, if you had to wait for even an hour to get an email, or place a bid on EBAY these days, you'd be totally lost...so yes this protest has real depth and significance.

That is why I pushed this thread, and will continue to do so, there are those that can see a little into the future and the one thing that will absolutely destroy the internet is any form of censorship.

Let me say these things...
a) if mass movement motivated via the internet can and has bought down governments, then that is something to seriously contemplate

next...
if groups like anonamous can organise and use their collective resources to correct certain democratically agreed issues to account via the internet, and no I have absolutely no association with then apart from beiong a sideline observer...

and finally with a little imagination its not hard to say pick on a company like...MONSA...TO and find out where they generate all their profits from that they then coerce/ blackmail , whatever you want to call it, but influence the elected administrators to do things we dont want...well they can be starved out of the market with a little application and effort...all it takes is a little unity and collective commitment to a common goal...these days its all about numbers and worldwide WE have the power to communicate instantly, and aggregate and act over time, all be it in our homes, but thats what make US all the real power on this planet now.

This could be the Iran/NK attack coming. The Blackout could be designed to silence hidden I-Net Early warning cells. All a mullah has to do is buy a house by an airbase. With the Inet, Iran can have eyes just beyond the fence.

To be honest, its sites like GLP that should probably be taking the lead now and evolving to their next level, they have the following..huge numbers, numbers that simply cannot be ignored.

Combine their resorces with like minded and motivated other resources and you do get a movement that is geographically diserfied but none the less cohesive on any number of topics that can be put to simple filtered democratic and mechanical assesments for various items of interest that members/users/readers, might wish to have an input in.

This seems to be some type of emerging model of how the world does seem to be evolving into.

Providing that the overwhelming intentions of the masses are well placed I see this as a good thing.

Normal you and me's do seem to be genuinely likeable and well meaning people, who would wish to help their fellow man.

The less than pallatable things that we are all subjected to as we go through our lives are usually sponsored by the few truely greedy, the ruthless power mongers and the greastest manipulators, who everyone hates, even their own protectors, who provide that protection through absolute fear and rarely for no other reason.

I see these people also re-assesing their loyalties when the chips go down and what I think is becoming obvious is that repressive regimes are collapsing like dominoes these days, and soon will follow even great states and companies as they will be forced to bend to the evenhanded and fair hand of the masses.

That is my version of modern utopia.

I hope that I live long enough to see it.
