A Layman's Theory of the "Strange Sound from the Sky" Phenomenon
I posted this on another thread but felt it might deserve a more specific commentary.

I'm not a meteorologist or anything but I have personally heard one of those eerie sounds from the sky event. It was a calm night, very still, yet there was a roaring sound up in the sky like a storm was going on but weirder sounding. I never heard anything like it before. It lasted for many minutes before stopping. Very strange. Now, here's my thought on the matter.

We've all blown across the neck of a soda pop bottle as kids, to generate that agitation sound. Bernoulli's principle, I think, if I remember my high-school physics. P1V1 = P2V2 . Anyways, is it possible that the jet stream is coming into contact with an upper atmosphere, differential pressure region/pocket and generating this agitation sound on a massive scale? Being so high up, might the sound appear to come from nowhere? Out of a clear blue sky, so to speak?

I've read on this forum that the jet stream as been tracking differently (climate change?) and that this is why we've been having a strange winter so far. High winds and unusual temperatures (freezing one day, rain the next, where I live, as opposed to the usual mounds of snow). Maybe HAARP, or a weakening magnetosphere or even that oceanic, dead-zone, hydrogen-sulphide, massive extinction level event, theory, may account for the pockets of differential pressure. As I said, I've read these things on this forum, so take it for whatever it's worth but it does make a certain kind of (weather?)sense to my high-school physics educated mind.

Anyways, I'm not implying a DOOM, or anything, but that's my theory. Maybe it's been said elsewhere. Maybe it's too stupid to have been said even once. Pick it apart or praise it. Or offer up your own.

Whenever several witnesses keep saying "it's coming from the sky", it stands to reason readers would tend to believe that it is actually coming at the earth instead of within the earth.

In this case, sound waves and the earths atmosphere are playing around with the human ear. These sounds are coming from within the earth.

Best theory yet. Space wind on the hole in the ozone. Or something. That is something to think about thanks for the explination.

I understand that sound directionality might be subject to many things that may distort it and confuse a listener. All I can say is that I heard it coming from above. And there were others who heard it with me ( I know, an irrelevant anecdote).

I wish I could say it was doom but honestly, I have no idea what I said even means.5a

Your theory makes sense to me. I live in Edmonton, on the south side of the river not far from where the video on another thread was shot.

I didn't hear anything on January 14, however there was a cold front moving in.

I've noticed a lot of higher altitude wind sounds lately. They don't sound like those wierd noises, just a roaring, rushing wind sound. Usually you hear the wind in the trees. This sounds like it is coming from higher up, like it is windy at the 5,000 foot altitude but not at ground level.

Yeah, upper atmospheric winds, but the jet stream as always been going over-head yet we don't hear it. Something seems to have changed recently if, in fact, it as to do with pressure differentials generating agitation sounds.

I wonder though, if these sounds were a natural occurrence of Bernoulli's Principle, wouldn't it be a known weather effect? Wouldn't it have a meteorological name? We wouldn't have all these internet videos wondering what the hell was going on.

Unless something has changed...

Unless, maybe, it is...

DOOM!

ahhhThe sky is falling! The sky is falling!
