A Layman's Theory of the "Strange Sound from the Sky" Phenomenon | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 6930436 United States 01/17/2012 12:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Whenever several witnesses keep saying "it's coming from the sky", it stands to reason readers would tend to believe that it is actually coming at the earth instead of within the earth. In this case, sound waves and the earths atmosphere are playing around with the human ear. These sounds are coming from within the earth. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6930436 In this case, sound waves and the earths atmosphere are playing around with the human ear. These sounds are coming from within the earth. I understand that sound directionality might be subject to many things that may distort it and confuse a listener. All I can say is that I heard it coming from above. And there were others who heard it with me ( I know, an irrelevant anecdote). |

I live in Edmonton, on the south side of the river not far from where the video on another thread was shot. I didn't hear anything on January 14, however there was a cold front moving in. I've noticed a lot of higher altitude wind sounds lately. They don't sound like those wierd noises, just a roaring, rushing wind sound. Usually you hear the wind in the trees. This sounds like it is coming from higher up, like it is windy at the 5,000 foot altitude but not at ground level. |

Yeah, upper atmospheric winds, but the jet stream as always been going over-head yet we don't hear it. Something seems to have changed recently if, in fact, it as to do with pressure differentials generating agitation sounds. I wonder though, if these sounds were a natural occurrence of Bernoulli's Principle, wouldn't it be a known weather effect? Wouldn't it have a meteorological name? We wouldn't have all these internet videos wondering what the hell was going on. Unless something has changed... Unless, maybe, it is... DOOM! The sky is falling! The sky is falling! |
