Does the universal law of karma (that you get back what you put out) not apply to women who have abortions? Should their deed be karma-exempt? You are acting as if a disabled child is a punishment, when we all know enough so-called 'disabled' children to know they are a true blessing and bring out our humanity in ways that surprise us. This law-maker is right in saying that abortion is a crime that is punished by God (if not by criminal law or the court of public opinion); however; he's wrong (as are you all) to infer that a disabled child is punishment. Given the choice between mothering a 'perfect' child or a 'disabled' one, I'd choose the latter one, hands down. Being granted the right to look after a child with special needs is a gift from God, a special responsibility that not everyone is up to the task for. The task is heavy but the reward is great, here and forever, just as all heavy tasks, well done, come with rewards. To love and care for someone who may not ever be able to return that love and care other than through a look or a gesture is a privilege we should all pray for.
