A Long Duration Solar Flare++ Right now..M3 ..CME detected..earth directed..

The flare was created by sunspot 1402...flux is still edging upward

Doesnt look Earth directed but I noticed that there is an ongoing flare as well

I think it is still to early to tell if it`s earth directed....the one from the other day still may clip us on the 22nd and the sunspot that created it wasn`t facing earth as much as 1402 is now...need to wait see if it is a "halo" event or not...

Looks like we are peaking at a M3...If Hugh is right and this had a filament eruption with it, we may see some effects from it..already had a minor R1 Level Radio Blackout from it..

If ya watch the Kiosk movie and watch it close at the very end you will see the CME blast off..surpisingly it appears to release from the north and flip to the south from what I could tell..Normally it seems they blast from the south to the north when above dead center...need to wait on more updates to be sure

January 19, 2012 – CHANCE OF AURORAS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 15% to 20% chance of polar geomagnetic storms during the next 24 hours in response to a possible glancing blow from a CME. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. Earth’s atmosphere has been puffing up in response to increasing levels of UV radiation from sunspots. This is good news for satellite operators, because a puffed up atmosphere helps clean up low-Earth orbit. Meanwhile, sunspot 1401 poses a threat for some M-class solar flares. –Space Watch

A CME from a C-flare can cause more damage than a CME from an X...It just depends on the nature of the beast..Some people are saying that a filament has exploded with this CME which could really multiply it`s effects...I haven`t verified the filament yet but that is a HUGE CME with this flare..

This glancing blow is coming from a very small CME created a few days ago...

Sunspot 1402 Eruption: A major eruption is currently in progress around Sunspot 1402. A large Two-Wave (CME) is seen in the latest images and appears to be Earth directed. This Long duration event peaked at M3.2 and is still ongoing.. A minor R1 Level Radio Blackout resulted. Stay Tuned.

How can this Huge CME miss us!

It's directed, well directly at the Earth. Combined with the fact that it is the second M for today and its Duration and possible association with a Filament eruption...this indeed is a Big Deal!

It would take a greater mind than mine to know that..lol...Heck I just want to see the Northern lights over KS again. I missed them last year...we will have to wait and see how much of this is going to hit us directly..
