Huge chunk of Antarctic ice sheet set to break free
Antarctica's Pine Island Glacier is preparing to shed a 300-square-mile chunk of its ice to the ocean in a process of ice loss that has been accelerating in recent years.

"If one understands that socialism is not a share-the-wealth programme, but is in reality a method to consolidate and control the wealth, then the seeming paradox of super-rich men promoting socialism becomes no paradox at all. Instead, it becomes logical, even the perfect tool of power-seeking megalomaniacs.

Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."

No , no conspiracy, unless.....

No, just joking - check this out. It claims that the ice sheets in north and south of the planet are melting at different rates, causing the earth to wobble.

I don't doubt that, just normal earth changes imo

If it is in the water already then it shouldn't cause the water to rise when it breaks off. That would be my primary concern when seeing this. But, yeah, the earth has problems! FOR SURE!

The Antarctic Ice Sheet is drained to the sea by several ice streams. The largest in East Antarctica is Lambert Glacier. In West Antarctica the large Pine Island and Thwaites Glaciers are currently the most out of balance, with a total net mass loss between them of 85 gigatonnes per year measured in 2006.

Here's something else that might be affecting the ice sheets.

So how come in my glass of water the water level doesn't rise when my ice melts?

...Displacement you say?

...So, how can icebergs be a threat?

The ice that is above the water will be part of the water when it melts but this piece of ice isn't large enough to raise the water level in any measurable way

This is my point!

So how can melting ice bergs cause the sea level to rise?

Just more propaganda!

yup.

it's just an excuse to push Agenda 21

but..having said that the 'experts' disagree (big surprise)

[...]despite its impressive dimensions, the crack is fairly dainty in light of the Pine Island Glacier ice shelf's vast proportions. The floating front end of the Pine Island Glacier, the ice shelf is roughly 1,235 square miles (2,300 square kilometers) across and nearly a third of a mile (500 meters) thick.

The recent discovery that the glacier that feeds it has markedly sped up over the last decade has provoked a flurry of research interest. The sudden changes are almost undoubtedly caused by climate change and warming oceans in the region.

The Pine Island Glacier is now one of the fastest moving in Antarctica, and NASA scientists say that every year it is losing ice.

The thinning and increasingly speedy glacier and several of its closest neighbors in West Antarctica are responsible for 7 percent of global sea level rise in recent years.

Good post :)

I think this all has to do with a pole shift, or something in the big picture like that.

This is in no way associated with 'global warming' or any man-made shit.

There's a big picture to everything, I try my best to see it all...but my conditioning prohibits me from seeing it all.

Alright timeout timeout

someone just accused me of being a "Climatetard" (red karma)

whoever that was..I can assure you that the ONLY reason I started this thread was in order to call attention to the scam

whoever does not believe it's a scam I would recommend reading the following thread that I started when I was known as Cypher

I recommend some research on your part--unless you're not willing to learn something that would require you to change your mind, in which case you would be wasting your time.

Here, start with this: Fill an empty glass with ice. Let it melt. Did it raise the level of water in the glass from zero to something, or did it disappear? The ice that's of concern is not the ice that is below water. It's the ice above the water. Process.

Thank you for that rebuttal.

I do understand your point of view.

But do you honestly think that the small amount of ice that remains above an iceberg - which is what? 5-15% of the volume could raise the EARTHS sea level by more than 1 meter?

...That's a lot of water!
