Searchalot (OP) User ID: 1289575 Netherlands 01/20/2012 04:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A person from local authorities showed at my door to ask about a building in my yard, seen on Google Earth. Quoting: Searchalot He openly stated that to my wife, who answered the door. After my wife reassured him it was a old animal shed, he was let inside the house to see for himself. After that, he left, reassuring my wife everything was fine. Odd, to say the least. The images from my house on Google Earth are at least seven years old. So they're not that quick, but still I think it's ridiculous they're using sources like that to determine if someone has build something in their own backyard. "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help. " Go figure... That does sound terrifying. I'm not your enemy, you are... © 2004, Maus E. Only your thoughts create your world. © 2015 Maus E. Searchalot (OP) User ID: 1289575 Netherlands 01/20/2012 04:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow - I don't like it either. I'm just glad I don't have a 911 address and can't be "googled". Still I can find my farm and see lots of stuff not visible from the road (like my round pens and barns). Gives me the creeps. Anonymous Coward User ID: 8280188 United States 01/20/2012 04:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think so.. The police do not look at land deeds and building permits. Either cased or they are monitoring you or HAVE monitored you and OBVIOUSLY think you are suspicious in SOME manner. Never treat an on-duty cop like a friend. Be friendly but they are not friends while on duty. Get them to get a warrant. If the cop didn't look at the shed you better be cautious. Please take my advice and report the encounter with as many police officers as you can, and the chief. Could have been off-duty for all you know, don't fuck around, make some calls, make sure they know this person came to your house, ask questions. For me? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8280188 United States 01/20/2012 04:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't know how they do things in the Netherlands but this should have been the response. And perhaps the police have nothing better to do but look at building permits and land deeds, but you don't need a permit to erect a free-standing shack. Maybe they think you are into drug selling, nothing to steal but a big home, don't post this if you're going to be stupid and do nothing with our comments. |

Searchalot (OP) User ID: 1289575 Netherlands 01/20/2012 05:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why would he have to go into your house to look at a shed in the backyard? Was there no other way to get to your backyard except through your house? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9206481 Yes there is a way around, but my wife couldn't let the kids alone in the house. My wife kinda offered it to him. Besides that, it was terrible weather so he really didn't want to get outside in the yard. Now he could view it from the scullery. The planning department in our area doesn't show up unless someone has complained.. they have to have a complaint before they will confront anyone. That could be changing elsewhere, but that's the way it has been in this area so far. |
