If you're getting pinched. Chances are that your grip is wrong.
If your grip is wrong, chances are that you're not getting close to your potential in either speed or accuracy.
Also, chances are that a bad grip, will induce bad habits that are inherently unsafe.
Have someone with ample experience in teaching check and possibly correct your grip. I'm pretty certain that will cure the pinch and broken nails in a hurry.
