Awful is the great day of judgment at its dawning in the Netherworld. The soul stands naked in the Hall of Judgment, nothing can now be hidden. One arrives. The Forty-Two Virtues are his assessors. Shall he dwell among beauty as a godling, or be given captive to the Keeper of Horrors, to dwell among vile things under a merciful mantle of darkness?


One arrives. The twisted body, tormented on Earth, and the ugly face have gone, discarded at the portal. He strides through the Hall in radiance, to pass into the Place of Everlasting Beauty.

One arrives. Neither goodness nor wickedness bears down upon the scales. The balances remain straight. The soul departs to the twilight borderland between the Region of Light and the Region of Darkness.

Neo was a program, as demonstrated when he changed "reality" outside the matrix. By preserving the matrix and preventing the machines winning and thus starting a new iteration of that program, he simply prolonged humanities slavery to the machines.


Yet he is always viewed as a hero.

He was simply another program enabling the machines. Agent Smith was the only one that ever figured it out, and he was perceived as crazy.

Easy! Read you some Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. Absolutists like Plato asked, "How can we know that our ideas correspond with the way the world really is?" Kant OTOH, asked, "How do our ideas constitute our world?"

Essentially:

You take some wood and some pieces, and you make a game. You set up the rules about what can be moved where, how and when. Then, within the game, you are free to make any number of moves; some brilliant and others stupid, but you are ALWAYS bound by the rules you set up for yourself. And since you made the rules, it would be ridiculous to wonder whether or not the rules are true!

Kant did however believe that there was only one universal set of rules, and thus only one way to constitute our reality. This means that you could trust your observations to be accurate from one person to another.

Personally I find myself more in line with absolutists like Plato and DesCartes. Even Kant was a pseudoabsolutist. Relativism (to thine own self be true) was too far fetched for even he to believe in.

Also, check out Hegel's dialectic. Hegel was a student of Kant. Karl Marx was a student of Hegel's. Relativism leads straight to being a danged commie pinko.

Hegel thought that it would lead us ultimately to world peace, ala Star Trek's federation of planets, but we see what path that actually takes us down. Relativism is screwing up our country since Kennedy was shot.
