Did everyone forget that the bible teaches us that God himself gave Mary and Joseph instructions to name their son Jesus? Why would it then matter if no one else of the time period was named that?

I believe that the name Jesus appeared a few hundred years ago. The Church reasoned that the best way to avoid saying the Lord's name in vain, was to not say his name.

Plus, it really annoyed them that our Savior had a Jewish name.

God did not give Mary and Joseph instructions to name their son Jesus, as that was not a name used back then.

Jesus's mother called him Yeshua or Yashua. There is no J sound in hebrew or vowels. The J sound is like our Y sound, so because Greeks do use the J sound it was transliterated Jeshua Or Joshua, then again in english to Jesus . The Name of the LORD and Messiah is Yeshua Ha Mashiach he answers to Jesus also, There were Greeks in his day and it was common to call him Jeshua or Joshua by the Greeks. Plus he has many many names, Emmanuel, Adonai, Iam that I am which in hebrew is eyer asher eyer, you can call him that as well. Someday soon you will call him King.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they named him after a Mexican landscaper..one of the main reasons i don't believe in God, he would never name his son after a Mexican.

The man in the New Testament people call Jesus would have no partnership with these "greek" influenced people who a few years before him put a pig on the alter in the Jerusalem Temple
