When it comes to gender relations i like Murray Bookchin's analysis of social ecologies... It goes something like this:

1. The less diversity an ecology has the more parasitic and fragile it becomes.

2. The more diverse an ecology the more symbiotic and stronger it becomes.

3. In terms of human social diversity, the more diverse it becomes the stronger and more symbiotic it becomes. In contrast, the less social diversity, the more parasitic it becomes.

His book "The Ecology of Freedom" is a fav of mine.

Although i do believe a biological determinist viewpoint that is mostly unconscious (the reptilian brain, hormones, etc), for the most part I think gender relations are mostly socially constructed, and more dynamic transculturally than any fascist notion that gender relations are meant to somehow be handed down to us from above.
