Also i would add bitches in there, having quit heroin and crack, and having your wife/long term gf leave you, comparable experiences.. drugs were way harder though

Re: In your opinion, what withdrawal symptoms are the worst?
ive come off coke, meth, adderall, oxy, methadone, heroin and more

I would have to say by-far the worse was methadone. It is alot harder to come off of then oxy or heroin. Heroin and oxy are about the same when it comes to withdrawl intensity. Heroin and oxy WD's will be really bad for about 2 weeks then start to get better with you being mostly done detoxing after a month. With methadone the worst withdrawls peaked at about 3 weeks and I would say I wasn't done detoxing for 6 weeks. MY GOD IT WAS HELL

Methadone or any kind of Benzo. They last for months, not days, or even weeks!

Benzo ESP Xanax wds were hellish worse than any other and unfortunately , I experienced all of the above , thankfully , I'm still alive although I have nerve issues from 25 yrs of rxd benzos and ESP from effects of the withdrawals . I got off of them to save myself but it wasn't easy it took a 2 year taper and still had many very bad seizures . Don't start !!! the side effects are worse than what theyre prescribed for and problems are still there under the numbness and eventually have to surface and be faced . Be well .

Fucking Cymbalta...that's right, a fucking antidepressant. Left me with the "zaps" for two damn months, constant diarrhea and severe mood swings.

I have chronic pain, so opioid are second, just because I am left with so much pain. Dr.'s and insurance co.'s make things so friggin hard for people that have severe chronic pain with the damn contracts, piss tests, pill counts and other bullshit. If you are one or two pills short, they can cut you off. I think it's a bunch of crap. If you get cut off, you have to go to another Dr., if you are on medicaid, you have to wait to get your card changed...so you can go without meds for a month or longer...then try to plead your case that you aren't a drugseeker or "doctor shopping". I have never failed a piss test...but they still find reasons to make your life a bitch. I forgot to bring in my meds to an appointment, so they cut me off...just like that. Now I'm in the midst of going to a new Dr.

BS!

alcohol, then opiates.

Meth sucked REALLY bad, but it was a one time Bender and I also was having alcohol withdrawals too. Bad combo, total psychotic break.

Re: In your opinion, what withdrawal symptoms are the worst?
The DTs from alcohol withdrawal can kill you. People are frequently confused for weeks if they survive. Mortality rate used to be almost 35%, but is now down to about 10%. IV Benzos is the treatment.

Withdrawal from Benzodiazepines is miserable and lasts a long time--weeks even, and can include seizures and death. Xanax is the most likely to be associated with withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal from Opiates is miserable and sickening, but the worst is over in a couple of days for IV users. The relief associated with opioid use which occurs in some people may make life almost intolerable without the drugs. The mental misery lasts a long time.

Stimulants like Meth and cocaine don't really have a "withdrawal" illness. The user just feels depressed and wants to get high again.

Going to a longer acting benzo is the first step. I would say Klonopin, not Valium... it's half-life is too long.

There is an excellent way to get off benzos that uses legal gaba agonists with a oscillation between a long acting benzo and the gaba agonist. Actually, use the legal gaba agonist and nearly cold turkey the benzo then taper the legal agonist until symptoms appear if any then offset those symptoms with a short five to seven day usage of the long acting benzo. This will work.

I think anything with panic attacks is the worst. I have done opiate withdrawals many times. They are terrible, but one panic attack that lasts for four hours and then happens again the next day makes two weeks of opiate withdrawals look like child's play.

Benzos by far. I quit taking Ativan and Xanax cold turkey and I had crazy hallucinations for a week or two. I ended up in the psych ward for 4 days to get straightened out.

Oxycontin... Could not sleep for 3 weeks, constant tossing and turning, restless legs, night sweats.... etc....

Also, years ago when I was taking antidepressants, my therapist had switched me from one that had anti-anxiety properties to one that did not.... 2 months of severe, persistent, and uncontrollable anxiety ensued... That was an awful experience

EFFEXOR XR (anti-dep)

5a

shouldn't have been prescrip'd them at all as not depressed, have fibromyalgia (pain illness felt like hit by train 24/7 whilst dealing with 'man flu')
given anti-dep's to help deal with it but wouldn't give me pain killers to lessen the pain WTF.

physical withdrawal lasted 8 weeks
* * BRAIN ZAPS * * were the absolute worst, think of Jody Foster in 'Contact' when she is in the machine and her face kind of separates (warp speed ish effect) This was actually worse than the vomiting, gastro, night sweats etc that also continued non stop for 8 weeks.

I did do it cold turkey with minimal dr input, hate those bastards, 6mths on so glad I did. I also stopped valium and gabapentin at the same time, not the smartest move but I was so desperate and determined to get off the drugs that for me it was all or nothing.

I did finally get some opiate pain killers but due to my previous exp I only took 1 or 2 a week and haven't touch any drugs for over 3 mths now.

I remember getting out of bed one morning after only getting about 2 hours of sporadic sleep and being absolutely miserable, and going into the bathroom and taking another pill, and immediately my body felt better and I was able to get some much needed sleep.... But I was wise enough to know that my problems would only get worse if I kept putting that crap into my system, so the following afternoon I flushed all of my remaining pills down the toilet.... This was a doctor authorized prescription for pain following a major back surgery, by the way.

I can totally understand how unknowing people get hooked on this shit and can't get off it.

Re: In your opinion, what withdrawal symptoms are the worst?
IMHO, The most powerful withdrawals come from those thing(s) which have the firmest grip over us.

Whatever they may be, those thing(s) which overcome us and are stronger than us. Things we cannot control and put under submission to our will.

These require one who is stronger than ourselves to cast them out of us and give us the strength to continue to overcome.

For me, that stronger one was/is Jesus Christ.

God Bless OP.

It takes a few years to get crack cocaine out of your daily mental associations. Everything becomes a trigger that can send you over the edge. You will find yourself daydreaming about it constantly, and if you decide to fight the urges, you are in for some serious inner mental conflict.

Physical withdrawal is minimal.
