Largest Solar Radiation Storm since October 2003 Correction and New Data from NOOA:Earlier, it was stated that the current Solar Radiation Storm was the largest since May 2005, when the 10 MeV protons exceeded over 3000 PFU. This was not correct. At the time of the earlier post, this current Storm was the biggest since January 2005, when the 10 MeV flux was 5040 pfu. After the arrival of the CME earlier today, the 10 MeV flux again increased and we were at around 6300 pfu. This is now the largest Solar Radiation Storm since October 2003. (The Halloween Storms) [ link to www.facebook.com] RWC BELGIUM Tue Jan 24 2012, 1459 UTSHOCK IN SOLAR WIND There is a hint that the shock linked to the halo CME of Jan. 23 has just arrived (14:30 UT) in the Earth vicinity. The ACE spacecraft magnetic field measurements show a sharp excursion (up to 40 nT) for Bt. The Bz component is still positive. The shock is currently not seen in the density, speed and temperature measurements: we suspect that these measurements are currently corrupted by the proton event still in progress. We expect in the coming hours minor storm conditions to prevail. [ link to sidc.oma.be] Quoting: IwantToBelieve76 Hello there IWTB..do you know if nict uses ACE Data for Solar Wind Pressure and Density because only the Field readings are working on the ACE Data and the nict Magnetosphere Simulation doesnt' appear to be getting the correct Data to feed into their Model..any clues!? Quoting: Spittin'Cesium correct data has not been recorded all day this is due to the very strong proton storm we are having right now it is messing up monitoring sensors Quoting: NiNzrez Was wondering if that could be the case, thanks Nin!
