Ok, this is NOTHING new. I show you how far it goes back. I've had this image a LONG time.
It's the same type reactor, but instead of turning a generator, it creates thrust for a jet. I give you

The nuclear jet engine...

It's based on fueled salt/breeder reactor, It was used in an Air Force test to fly around the world non stop. Worked well too. This Jet? engine has 3 intakes. One up front to help cool the reactor, two on top for thrust. It has turbines, but they are small, and the heat is the driving force of it.
A bigger version was put in this bomber/ [link to i41.tinypic.com] As you can see the rear of it has been cut out to allow the thrust to run it. It was also the first test bed of this engine on a bomber. Here shown is the B-60. This plane did not come with cargo room, ie: what would be a rear door, this thing is loaded with bombs the same way a B-52 is.
Then came the treaty, no nuclear releases into the atmosphere. All went quiet. Except for those two ladies and one kid that had one come down and almost land in front of them. They stopped on the 2 lane hwy/farm to market. The ladies in front got radiation burns pretty bad, but one stepped out of the car, and really got burned. Even the kid in the back seat got burned. The pavement was quickly dug up and carried away, because it had melted.
Two black helicopters came and it went on with them. Sure sounds like the same type of engine at work.

Impressive but spreading radiation if there's an accident or getting blown up by enemy. Hmm... What is the true purpose behind nuclear powered plane?

1.Long Loiter time
2.Constant airborne UCAV with a nuke deterrent

and...
3.Test Bed aircraft for nuclear powered vehicles
A-think hypersonic
B-think single stage to orbit
C-think nuclear powered space ships with much higher specific impulse power
i-think earth to moon for a fraction of the cost
ii- think earth to Mars or anywhere else that has an atmosphere to use as storage fuel for the return journey.

When you look NERVA and other test beds [link to www.daviddarling.info]

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

that were started in the 50s- the idea of a CURRENT US Space Fleet seems much more realistic as a certain Mr McKinnon has alleged.

I find it pretty sad that we could have had this decades ago, but still continue to pollute the crap out of the earth.

People resonsible for surpressing this technology should be arrested and put to work to clean up Fukushima!

Re: LFTR The Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor!
And this:

In our July 1997 cover story, “Roswell Plus 50,” POPULAR MECHANICS detailed how Air Force interest in duplicating Nazi technology led to two American flying disc projects. Project Silver Bug sought to build a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. Project Pye Wacket was to create small discs for use as air-to-air missiles. Documents declassified since then point to a third secret project, a 40-ft. “flying saucer” designed to rain nuclear destruction on the Soviet Union from 300 miles in space.

The official designation for America’s nuclear flying saucer was the Lenticular Reentry Vehicle (LRV). It was designed by engineers at the Los Angeles Division of North American Aviation, under a contract with the U.S. Air Force. The project was managed out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, in Dayton, Ohio, where German engineers who had worked on rocket plane and flying disc technology had been resettled.

The LRV escaped public scrutiny because it was hidden away as one of the Pentagon’s so-called “black budget” items—that is, a secret project that is incorporated into some piece of nonclassified work. On Dec. 12, 1962, security officers at Wright-Patterson classified the LRV as secret because: “It describes an offensive weapon system.” The project remained classified until May 1999, when a congressionally mandated review of old documents changed the project’s status as a government secret, downgrading it to public information. The Department of Defense did, however, successfully seek to have the document’s distribution restricted to defense contractors. PM obtained its copy as the result of a Freedom of Information Act request.

Re: LFTR The Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor!
Thorium...
... reactors were known about in the 30's and as developed as the U35 hot types..
they could have been built in 1952..at Fukushima...

... however the GE Reactors built at Fukushima in 1952 were designed to provide uranium and plutonium for the nuclear weapons industry , not power...that line was for the public's consumption

... so thorium would not have worked for them...
can't make bombs from it
and yes the dialog has been around that long.

Fuku's reactors were the prototype for the weapons industry...

couldn't even find anyone to talk about this for years and years ...

so thank you for refreshing an old mans faith in thinking people...

when measured against any other option the footprint of thorium is smaller and cleaner....it is also capable of supplying our consumption of energy in realistic terms..

bonus is all the rare earths it produces....but then China Knows that....

I writhe with delight when researching this as I can trash both the lefties and righties energy policies with this one... it leaves them speechless...you win every time...

the only people not happy about this are the bomb people...

I believe that I read once that it would only take Ten Years of recycling to contaminate the bomb cycle material with this technology and degrade the weapons cycle material with this...scares the shit out of the power people

can not be uncontaminated causes premature aging of the fissile components making them useless for long term use in weapons...

Dear Silver,

You are one of a very few people who get the implications of Thorium and the downside of Uranium properly.

Strange that so few of us understand this, the potential of thorium and the downside of Uranium.

What it could have been and what it could be.

I will always work toward the betterment as I'm sure you will, don't loose hope sir, keep trying. We are not the only ones.

My Very Best Wishes,

what are the drawbacks and what is being done to overcome them?

now dont say there aren't any, there is for any technology, and deny them makes it look like magic and woo. in this case im aware they developed prototypes in the 60's and India is keen but havent got far. I recall reading about a suggestion of Thorium Salt reactors (presumably similar to this) being developed to drop in to replace existing coal plants, but that was a while ago.

well maybe the word FLOURIDE is throwing people off.
i still havent come to the part where they explain the flouride.
cant get past those flashing messages yet...i want to know what they say.

OP i had a hard time following along with the video.
it seemed so fast at first. i certainly like fast talkers but in this instance it seemed so edited and chopped together, and i found it hard to assimilate his words before he was on to the next sentence.it was a bit difficult for me to keep up.
ive never heard of this stuff before so ill have to rewatch it a couple more times.

i dont know, the faith isnt there.

I have seen estimates that the Thorium fuel cycle can be extended for 1 billion years (if a breeder reactor). Even 1,000 years would be great.

I don't get why our leaders don't get it. They seem to be getting it in India
