Scientists finally admit plasma is responsible for magnetic fields in space!
Discovered by a German astronomer in 1950, the Biermann process predicts that a magnetic field can spring up spontaneously from nothing more than the motion of charged particles. Plasma, or charged particle gas, is abundant in space.

Scientists believe that large clouds of gas collapsing into galaxies sent elliptically shaped bubbles of shockwaves through the early universe, touching off flows of electric current in the plasma of the intergalactic medium.

Anyone who has built an electromagnet in middle school science class is familiar with this concept, Drake said.

"If you can make current flow, you make a magnetic field," Drake said.

The question in astrophysics was what could have generated the current. This experiment demonstrated that such asymmetrical shockwaves could do the job.

It's about time they began to take plasma cosmology seriously and stop believing in the creation myth that is the standard theory of the big bang.

PLasmare, I need some help, if you could. It concerns the e-mail exchange you and Peratt had. Would he verify in any way what he said to you in that e-mail where he admits the plasma is inner heliosphere?

Do you think if you or I e-mailed him currently, he would respond with the same answer?

I don't know, I haven't heard anything from him since he sent me a default press release statement. The strange thing is he said there's a dense plasma already within the solar system but did not elaborate when I asked about it. The last email I received was that press release about the Norway spiral. My hotmail account with the emails has been shut down but I have already copied the emails over on these forums in several posts.

There is no "inner" heliosphere, you mean inner solar system and the only thing he stated was that a dense plasma has entered the solar system. I sent him another email recently asking some question but also have no heard from him. A day or two after the email exchange this happened;

(Newser) – Nuclear researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory accidentally blew up part of a building this week while testing a gun that acts like a Civil War cannon, according to documents obtained by the Project on Government Oversight. Nobody was injured in the incident, but sources say the bill for the damage will top $3 million, Gawker reports.

"Researchers heard a loud, unusual noise from Technical Area 15, Building 562 after firing a shot from a large-bore powder gun," a Los Alamos occurrence report states. "Outside, they observed that two doors had been blown off the facility and concrete shielding blocks on the west and east side of the building were separated from the wall."

What do you mean IF, it simply is a state of matter... Heat something enough and you will break the bonds and create free electrons and turn any matter into plasma or just use ionizing radiation.
[link to public.lanl.gov]

Plasma is by far the most common form of matter known. Plasma in the stars and in the tenuous space between them make up over 99% of the visible universe and perhaps most of that which is not visible. On earth we live upon an island of "ordinary" matter. The different states of matter found on earth are solid, liquid, and gas. We have learned to work, play, and rest using these states of matter. Sir William Crookes, an English physicist, identified another, more fundamental, state of matter in 1879. In 1929, Nobel Laureate Irving Langmuir gave this state a name, plasma. He borrowed the term from medical science because the matter with which he worked resembled life itself. It formed cells through bifurcation and often acted in a complicated and unpredictable manner. Plasma is defined as an assemblage of charged particles called electrons and ions that react collectively to forces exerted by electric and magnetic fields.

Given its nature, the plasma state is characterized by a complexity that vastly exceeds that exhibited in the solid, liquid, and gaseous states. Correspondingly, the study of the physical and especially the electrodynamical properties of plasma forms one of the most far ranging and difficult research areas in physics today. From spiral galaxies to controlled fusion, this little-known state of matter, the fundamental state, is proving to be of ever greater significance in explaining the dynamics of the universe and in harnessing the material world for the greatest technological result.

The electric universe theory is not against the big bang theory.

And they "admitted" (or experimentally proved!) that a current produces an electric field way before 1900.

The full range of possible plasma density, energy(temperature) and spatial scales go far beyond these illustrations. For example, some space plasmas have been measured to be less than 10-10 /m3 (13 orders of magnitude less than the scale shown in the figure!). On one extreme, quark-gluon plasmas (although mediated via the strong force field versus the electromagnetic field) are extremely dense nuclear states of matter. For temperature (or energy), some plasma crystal states produced in the laboratory have temperatures close to absolute zero. On the other extreme, space plasmas have been measured with thermal temperatures above 10+9 degrees Kelvin and cosmic rays (a type of plasma with very large gyroradii) are observed at energies well above those produced in any man-made accelerator laboratory.

It's a change in state and you really need to understand what plasma is in order to understand what you need to change the state of matter to plasma. Usually ionizing radiation like UV is enough. Scientists use lasers. If you're interested use the link I gave you, it has pictures...

No they do not, it is the plasma in the atmosphere that emit EM radiation. Solids, liquids and gases do not emit electromagnetic radiation, plasma does. Maybe the core does too since it's also a plasma. Plasma is the only thing that can EMIT EM radiation naturally. That is why the sun glows, UFOs glow, because they're plasmas and can be invisible, glowing or discharging electricity, like lightning.

They've recently launched a new satellite
to study "plasma waves" so the boffin's are
definitely studying it closely.

From 25th Jan...

"Before Progress 45 burned up on Tuesday it deployed a novel miniature satellite called Chibis-M. The 88-pound (40-kg) microsatellite was released in an orbit that is slight higher than that of the International Space Station. It is expected to spend several years studying how plasma waves interact with Earth's ionosphere, NASA officials said."

Not really, it's only a mystery to those who think they know and try to fit observation into their beliefs. If people just learned objectively and with an open mind, instead of filtering everything with beliefs, nothing would be that mysterious. Science isn't what it used to be, these days it's nothing more than a religion with a few heretics actually searching for the truth and real explanations of what we've observed.

An international team of researchers published a study in the Aug.14, 2007, issue of the New Journal of Physics (PDF here [link to iopscience.iop.org] abstract here [link to iopscience.iop.org] that indicates that these crystals may be more sophisticated than anyone realized. In simulations involving cosmic dust, the researchers witnessed the formation of plasma crystals displaying some of the elementary characteristics of life -- DNA-like structure, autonomous behavior, reproduction and evolution."
[link to www.metafilter.com]

When plasma comes into contact with a dust cloud, dust particles gather an electric charge by sucking up electrons from the surrounding plasma. This core of electrons in turn pulls in positively charged ions, forming plasma crystals. In the scientists' simulations, which were performed on the International Space Station and in a zero-gravity environment at a German research facility, the plasma crystals sometimes developed into corkscrew shapes or even the double-helix shape of DNA. These helix-shaped crystals retain an electric charge and show what the researchers called a self-organizing ability.

"So they form DNA-like shapes, reproduce, pass on their structure or genetic code, "eat" plasma, evolve and die."

Ironic isn't it, all this time we're searching for life in the universe and the visible universe is 99.9% plasma. The search for life needs to be renamed to the search for life like us. There is no set definition of what life is just some guidelines and plasma meets them all.

Electric universe is not the same as plasma cosmology. Electric universe is what gives plasma cosmology a bad name because they're a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're on about. Astronutless stays away from plasma because it's beyond his understanding and intelligence to comprehend. He only talks about what he can see and what others tell him to be. You can't see plasma unless it's in glow mode, otherwise it's invisible to our eyes and optical telescopes. Just like you cannot see the many layers of plasma above you in the atmosphere like the ionosphere and magnetosphere but they are there. All he knows is what he can see in his big toy telescope and he has a big telescope to compensate for his small... I don't think I need to spell it out.
