Looking at the coastline of Iran on Google Earth, You can see the one and only shipyard they own.

I know that Google earth is not representative of the actual picture, but even at that, they are sitting ducks.

2 drydocks, one floating drydock, couple of cruisers, some destroyers, landing craft,5 or 6 hovercraft, oilers, supply ships, couple of subs. Maybe one sub under cover in drydock.

All this in one area, and nowhere to run, as they are stuck in a gulf.

Is Iran an Idiot to go aroundd strutting and mouthing off?

I'm beginning to believe the story that Iran is backed into a corner with a EGO based bluff they can't pull out of.

All with a two or three carrier task forces waiting at the mouth of the gulf and a build up on a nearby island.

Kinda one sided.

Here is their shipyard:

27°8'42.93"N, 56°12'21.63"E
There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!

I wouldn't discount those Iranian subs and their "HOOT" torpedoes. All they have to do is get lucky once.
Yup, we have plenty with with which to target their navy but it's only a part of the things we need be concerned about.

A stealth attack will not be possible as they will have the support of Russian and Chinese eyes in the sky. It's the use it or loose it scenario

Yeah they will be destroyed like Iraq in the long run but if they can manage to get 10% of their missiles to target there will be an unacceptable impact on oil terminals, Israel and US forces in the region. Iran's strength is in their missile deterrence and the breadth of their country.

Factor in the unknowns like Israel China Russia and Pakistan Syria Lebanon Hamas...who knows

It's gonna hurt bad. I expect we will feel it here too.
I don't think we can stand high fuel prices. Our quality of life will change forever if this happens. Yup their navy will be at the bottom of the sea but not without a cost.

Yes,
I never expect any modern battle to be a total pushover. There is pain with every life lost, and financial pain to come later.

It will hurt, I agree, but still, it seems insane to me for them to want to try to take on a war they cannot win. It would be almost like making the whole country into a suicide bomb. I hurt you, but annihilate myself. Nuts!

It was the same with Saddam. The war cost a lot of lives, and the fighting in some areas like with the guard, was nasty. (No, I would not want to be there) But strategically, Saddam could only produce a tactical delaying action, with no hope of winning.

It just seems the same here. Unless, as you mention, Iran is hoping to get someone at their back to escalate the war.

Re: If this is even half all they have, then Iran's Navy doesn't have a chance
Iranians and muslims are not americans or westerners. They don't believe in building the most powerful army in the world with all the latest technology and shit and protecting yourself from head to toe with metal bullet proof boxes.

They have gone to battle before naked and still won. These people have a whole different mentality. Men over there are sill men not sissies like here. Courage, honor and faith is what matters to them not guns and tanks. Thats how the entire muslim world operates. They've a whole different concept of winning the wars. Their stories and legends consists of 12 or 13 men taking down armies of hundreds without even taking a break for water.

So thats what the Iranians are counting on. Faith. A burning fire of faith in the heart of the men and youth that they must, at even the cost of their life, protect their country and die protecting it.

Americans and most westerners have no idea who they're messing with here. Why do you think its taken 10 long years with the latest high tech gadgets and weaponry and still the war in Afghanistan hasn't been won. Thats cause weapons can't give you what you need to win the war. Faith and Courage!

Our foolish leaders jumped into these stupid wars without even finding out anything about their opponents. Idiot George bush didn't even know there were different sects of Islam. He was like I thought Islam was one religion. But you know what the asian war philosophy says? That if you know yourself, you have won half the battle, if you know yourself and your enemy, you've won the whole battle.

This was the mistake made 10 years ago by our foolish leaders. And if they do it again with Iran, then its over for real. yeahsure

I see what you are trying to say, AC from Canada, But faith does not stop the rain of death falling on you if it is overwhelming.

I do not think this would be a war of occupation or of removal of a regime, but rather attrition.

In other words, complete destruction of their ability to wage war. Not occupation or to prevent terrorism in that country.

No, I think it will be total annihilation of their military and their industry.

The last time we had a war of this type, Complete war of attrition, would have been WWII
