Half Past Midnight User ID: 781996 United States 01/28/2012 09:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am one week gluten-free and vegan and my sugar intake is limited to pure maple syrup and other organic sugars at a minimum. I also do not eat anything processed with ingredients that sound chemical or strange. Quoting: canuckchick 7273558 I start my day with a smoothie containing organic pure brown rice protein, almond milk, coconut oil, vital greens liquid, a banana and half a can of pure pineapple. I feel amazing...my energy is incredible and I am pooping 3 times a day always comfy and quick, I used to only go once a day and it was never this great! Sounds good except I'd rather use fresh pineapple than a can of it. What are the Vital Green Liquid you are taking? Thanks. |

Sheesh! :) Also my food storage is mostly pre-packaged and canned junk so if TSHTF I won't exactly be following veganism if it comes down to survival! But hey maybe in tough times I can trade my mac and cheese boxes and canned soups filled with msg for fresh fruits and veggies... I am certain you will keep feeling better as the days go by. I would only recommend using lots of variety in your diet to enable a maximum intake of essential nutrients, also lots of raw fruits and veggies in their natural state. Many folks are intolerant of gluten, myself being one, I have also gone vegan and or vegetarian at times and always feel much better, breath easier am more awake and have much more energy. It is what an ideal diet is all about, keep it up! |

Major health benefits and if you think about it, how your physical brain feels could possibly make it as that's how your mind feels. Juicing allows uptake of vitamins/minerals/other stuff in liquid form which allows the highest amounts of good stuff in the fastest amount of time delivered upon ingestion! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1486940 United States 01/29/2012 01:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Awesome. You probably have more energy now that your body isn't using up so much trying to process animal protein. I seem to need some of it, myself, being Type O. But I like to include plenty of non-meat proteins, too. Meat is not my main protein a lot of the time, or it's just used to flavor a dish. The GF stuff is great, I have been doing that for a few years, as have my sister, and some cousins. We all developed an intolerance. I get Bob's Red Mill GF baking mixes sometimes to prepare stuff, or I just use my own GF baking mix and substitute it in regular recipes, like for banana bread, etc., using Xylitol instead of sugar. People often say that the GF one tastes better than the wheat. I have to also add a little gelatin (like Knox) and some Xanthan gum to make the flour hold like wheat flour, it replaces the gluten in it. Vitacost.com carries gluten free items for less than the GF web sites, and I have also purchased some at Amazon. Quinoa, buckwheat, rice, corn, oats, millet, there are other grains to choose from when you want to be GF, which is nice. I also do the brown rice protein powder smoothies sometimes in the morning, using rice milk and fresh, ripe fruit I have cut-up and frozen, along with multi mineral liquid, agave syrup, real vanilla, slivered almonds, and a bit of flax meal. My latest addiction is V-8, love that stuff. I was on dialysis for 8 years and not allowed to have hardly any whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, etc. It was really awful, so I'm definitely enjoying them all a lot now that I'm able to eat them after a transplant. Still have to be careful a bit, tho, due to the meds. The only thing I cannot have now is grapefruit, but I ate a lot of them before since I knew I'd miss them. It's great that you are feeling so much energy. I have found in the past that merely cutting out a lot of simple carbs, and all sugars, gave me a truly noticeable boost in my energy throughout the day. Do you do organic, too? I hear that it tastes better, but I don't necessarily pay enough attention to that. I should, though, considering how I'm trying to find a way away from GMO products. |

That crap has virtually no nutritional value because it's been destroyed via the pasteurization process. You should get a juicer and make your own V-8 juice from fresh fruits and vegetables. Once you have the real stuff you will never buy processed juices again. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 3554817 United States 01/29/2012 01:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey OP, I am going to make the switch to raw vegan this spring and summer, but I'm doing it gradually because last time I tried to drop all meat and processed foods, I only lasted two weeks. My problem was getting enough calories from just fruit and veggies and also the lack of protein. If you continue this diet, you need to make sure you know what you are doing. A couple suggestions: - buy a sprouter and a bunch of wheatgrass, alfalfa, and other types of seeds and when they are sprouted, throw them in a blender with your other fruites and veggies for smoothies. - make sure you are getting enough vitamin B1. You might need to take a supplement. - Buy a vegan cookbook and try to get variety in your diet. You need to plan your meals so that you get enough calories. Other than that, I wish you luck! When I tried raw vegan, i felt amazing and couldn't believe how much energy I had. It also really helps with depression and anxiety. My main reason for wanting to change to being a vegan is to help with meditation and to see if there is anything to the whole "increasing vibrations" thing. This spring I'm constructing a greenhouse and plan on growing 80-100% of all the food I need because I simply don't trust the processed crap you buy in stores. |

FyreStorm User ID: 2198090 United States 01/29/2012 02:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been tempted to try a gluten free diet, but it seems you are extremely limited as to what foods you can eat. Also a lot some of the gluten free products seem like they don't contain much fiber. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1313077 there's that limitation, and believe me, you don't want to know how harsh the chemical engineering that goes into making something gluten free is ------- check out [link to www.intldyn.com] to get an idea of what I do. |
