Ran across An Introduction to Modern Astrophysics by Carrol and Ostlie, copyright 1998. Just going to pick some passages on the sun, if there's anything comment-worthy on AA...

Based on its observed luminosity and effective temperature, our Sun is classified as a typical main-sequence star of spectral class G2 with a surface composition of X=0.73 and Z=0.02 (the mass fractions of hydrogen and metals, respectively). (p 381)

The change in the Sun's central composition since it began nuclear burning has had a direct influence on its observable luminosity and radius; the luminosity has increased by 40% while the size of the star has increased by more than 10% (p 382)

From a theoretical standpoint, it is not at all clear how this change in solar energy has altered Earth during its history, primarily because of uncertaintanties in the behavior of the terrestrial environment. Understanding the complex interaction between the Sun and Earth involves the detailed calculation of convection in Earth's atmosphere, as well as the effects of the atmosphere's time-varying composition and the nature of the continually changing reflectivity of Earth's surface. (Note 3 The ratio of the amount of reflected sunlight to incident sunlight is known as the albedo. Earth's albedo is affected by, among other things, the amount of surface water and ice.) (p 383)

Clearly, an enormous amount of information is available regarding the solar interior, derived from the direct and careful application of the stellar structure equations and the fundamental physical principles described in the last three chapters. The answer to the question of what powers solar flares lies in the location of the flare eruption. Flares develop in regions where the magnetic field intesity is great, namely in suspot groups. From the discussion of the previous section, the creation of magnetic fields results in energy bein stored in thos magnetic fields. If a magnetic field disturbance could quickly release the stored energy, a flare might develop. It is left as an exercise to show that both the amount of energy stored in the magnetic ield and the time scale involved in perturbing it via Alfven waves are consistent with the creation of a solar flare. however, details of the energy conversion, such as particle acceleration, are still a matter ofa ctive research. It's mid May now, we are enjoying a brief repast from the 95 degree cloudless days today, as it was cloudy and cool at around 75 degrees sue to a strong cold front passing.

I am sticking with my original prediction, record breaking high temperatures and permanent heat waves across the globe throughout the summer and the loss of much of our vegetation, including trees. Many lakes will dry completely up and there will be droughts and extreme weather conditions.

Equatorial regions wont be as bad as northern hemisphere regions between 10 degrees and 22 degrees north latitude , because these are the regions where thee Sun will be most directly overhead and the least attenuated by the atmosphere.. By the summer solstice, temperatures will reach over 130 degreesF in the deep south and 110-115 on the East coast, causing rolling blackouts and brownouts due to overuse of air conditioning.

It is mostly infra red that creates the heating effect, which can be attenuated by cloud cover , reflective clothing and hats, and hard shade like the shade of a large building. The tingling effect is caused by ultra violet, which is already reaching ratings of 12. By summer solstice we will see readings never before recorded here in Texas and i other deep south regions. And whatever you do, DO NOT let anyone convince you that during x ray flares x rays do not penetrate to ground level in dangerous levels. I have measured it myself and I know for absolute fact that when the sun is at less than 30 degrees to perpendicular to the ground, high levels of X rays do reach the ground during x ray flares. TPTB don't want you to know this simply because it would cut into tier bottom line if people watched for x ray flares and walked off the job during dangerous events. I liken an x ray flare when the Sun is near to overhead and taking no precautions to protect oneself as slow suicide.

And now let us cover the coronal mass ejections that have been ongoing. It is all dependent on the condition of the geomagnetic field and unless you have magnetometer you must assume particle radiation is reaching the surface as CME's reach Earth. The other danger I have covered is the intersection of geomagnetic field lines from the proton level of the Van Allen radiation belts with the Earths surface, which is a similar danger to walking through Fukashima totally unprotected.
