Free Neutrons in space moving at above light speed are probably the result of the supernova of stars. A very violent and energetic explosion that disintegrates matter down to the subatomic level and destroys the nucleus. It is also important to note that what are called super massive particles are present as well, which are the retirements of nuclei of heavier elements. Since we have little neutron emission from our own star, it is unlikely these originate from healthy stars or other celestial objects, but from very violent explosions occurring at a rather regular rate throughout the universe called supernovas. We might not even be able to see the source because the particles outrun the light perhaps by thousands of years.
