NASA released several statements claiming 12/21/12 was the end date of the Mayan calender. NASA is well known for it's dishonesty and it's disdain for the people who finance it. So much so it is now a laughing stock known as Never A Straight Answer" it is a well earned acronym.
Quoting: Anonymous Astrophysicist 1194140 There are references about the end of the Mayan calendar spelling disaster that long predate any interest from NASA -- as far back as 1966. I expect the folks at NASA were busy with other things at the time than making IDW look like an idiot 46 years later.
