Anonymous Coward User ID: 9581681 United States 02/01/2012 03:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What's there to like about Romney or Newt, exactly? I wish the news networks tonight would have asked their supporters what they like best about their candidates. I bet most of them would recycle talking points based on perception and not reality. Our elections are basically just a social pageant, like homecoming queen or something. There isn't much difference between the main candidates in either party. The problem is that the big biz that back establishment Republicans get special treatment from the govt. Why would the GOP consider an individual mandate? Cause their health insurance donors get something out of it. Bank bailouts? Cause their banker donors get something out of it. Climate legislation? Cause big energy companies will demand special treatment as part of the bill... and pay off the GOP to get it. So what happens is that as you add regulations and taxes, businesses w/ sufficient leverage can say that they'll either flee to greener pastures or they would like special treatment. The govt. wants those businesses in their sphere of influence and needs their jobs and tax base, so the special privileges are granted. A two class system of insiders vs. everyone else starts to emerge, as the libs campaign against "big bad businesses" or the "1%" or whatever while simultaneously giving those people special treatment so they don't leave for another country. The answer is to make U.S. corporate taxes so low that businesses will stay here without needing special privileges, and since the code is the same for everyone, we avoid the two class system where a superclass gets more and more relative to everyone else. Of course to pull this off, you have to cut spending. Libs say that when Ron Paul wants to cut spending, he's going to pull the rug out from under the poor, but I reject that notion. To cut bureaucrats doesn't necessarily mean that the poor don't get their aid. In fact, it could mean their programs are more solvent and sustainable, and should mean this. Especially now when we have so many ways to connect via the internet, phones, etc., we can identify those in need to distribute help without as many middle men in government. I think a lot of the overseas spending can be cut to. The empire would be more useful if the people got more of the spoils. However, the way things work out is that certain people get actual cash from the empire, and then if that money is deposited in U.S. banks, the rest of us get credit from the fractional reserve system. It's better than nothing I guess, but there is also the matter of the national debt incurred in running the empire to begin with. Taking everything into account, do most Americans actually benefit from the empire? Not sure, and I think in the long run it will be a big no, cause I don't believe it's sustainable and if things collapse, we'll all be stuck with the national debt and a tarnished reputation for the Mid East interventions. But I think a more detailed discussion of the empire and whether it's worth it to most of us needs to be had, cause if we do decide it's not, that would be a big savings in terms of spending for sure. But for now, I believe that ending the wars and bring most troops home isn't a bad idea. Will China and Russia fill the vacuum and do the same stuff we were doing? Don't know; That's part of the discussion. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 9581681 United States 02/01/2012 03:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is actually good news, since we know that Ron won't compromise his principles, so when he gets money it merely means more clout and publicity is given to those principles. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9581681 Right... you obviously have no concept of Paypals history Everyone has something in their past. You're playing the guilt by association card, but we see no evidence that Ron has ever compromised based on donors. We see plenty of that with other candidates, so it matter with them. Now, if he started getting money flooding in from typical establishment donors, I'd be more curious, but this is a blip, and again I've seen no evidence that Ron is no trustworthy. So, what's Paypal's history since you imply that's a concern? |
