School Chipped My Son's Shoe**UPDATE**

As you can see from the pic of the full shoe I posted, you're wrong. This REI shoelace is NOT what is on my child's shoe.

She comes here for support, info, and assurance regarding her dilemma, and Apollo, you of all people are trying to discredit her experience. You have no children. OP, keep us posted, please. This is serious whether it is an RFID or not because no school or tribe has the authority to study your child with your full knowledge and consent. This is constitutional violation.

Say youre them and you are doing a program to measure physical fitness activity in children

Somewhere along the line contracts were not seen, signed or papers got lost in the mail.

Then you see your program posted on a conspiracy site with comparisons of Adolf like concentration camp tagging or who knows what evil assumptions are given.

This program could see you in court for defammation etc.

This is GLP, not daytime TV for suburban housewives. "Apollo" (? LOL) is doing a pretty good job of 'devils advocate' and why not? Anything to break up the saccharine platitudes is a good thing here. Non-attachment and 'love' seem a bit mutually contradictory and entirely subjective anyway. While you're preening yourself about being so tolerant and loving, how about a little tolerance for Apollo? He has as much right to his opinion as any of the rest of us here and his humor is usually quite refreshing. Finally, since when is parenthood alone any indicator of enlightenment? It could mean you just forgot to take your pill - oh, and maybe forgot to get married first too.

That is the real issue: vandalism of private property and it's supposed to be illegal. You can't just take somebody else's clothing and stick things on them, even if you're a 'school.' Illegal is illegal. All the 'feelings' here are just confusing the facts. But the facts are those shoes and there shouldn't even have to be so much discussion over what's plain as day.

The bold text is one of my problems with this.

The other being now if your child is in a public school YOU have to OPT OUT of something if you don't want your kid participating when it should be the other way around. This is where things have really changed cause when I was a kid you had to have a damn permission slip just to ride the bus to school sponsored activity...not anymore. So when the kids are at school how do parent's know what's going on that we may want to opt out of?

Touche. You're right. Sorry Apollo - rant away about how silly it is to be worried about someone tracking your child! I'll tolerate it. It just struck me as out of character. :)

I know that and you know that and so does everybody here and you also know as well as I that the minute that phrase comes into the discussion, we're all written off by the 'general public' as a lot of tin-foil-hat-wearing nutcases. The time to raise hell about privacy was over 20 years ago when they first started subjecting kids to strip searches in school bathrooms, expelling them for carrying a Midol for cramps and letting school 'counselors' with no medical certifications put kids on psych drugs with the help of 'doctors' who never even treated them for anything. All we have left to fight with is whatever's left of the Law.

UPDATE
This device is only a pedometer. It does have a computer chip in it and is read by a computer but is not attached to my son's name, only a number which was predetermined. Therefore we have been assured that this is only for a health and fitness study. It does not trace anything, only tracks his physical activities.

Now for the part that concerned me the most.
When your child is in a public school they have the right to use results from studies, physical and mental, they do to apply for grants from whom ever, this is the reason they sent an "opt-out" form and not an "opt-in" form. This was also not mandatory for him to participate and they call the kids in and hand this to them to put on their shoe while they watch so that no one else is actually doing in to them or for them.

While I understand all this, I wish the communication had been a little more solid instead of leaving people to wonder what in the heck is on my kids shoe...and no, I'm not the only parent around here that was asking questions so I'm obviously not the only one that missed the letter in the mail.

Bottom line, if your kid is in a public school be aware of what's going on at all times so you're able to "opt-out" if you feel uncomfortable or disagree with with a particular study.

Good thing it was not damaged or lost because yes, we would have been liable for a hundred bucks! Just as we are held liable for lost books or any other school property!

After talking with parents, school administration and legal counsel, this is how it was explained to me.

I see what you mean now...use the argument that's most likely to get results and least likely to get you written off as a loon. I'm afraid you're right about the "zero tolerance" rules in the public schools...common sense has completely flown out the window in a lot of them.

That said, I'm not afraid for my kids' school to think I'm a loon: I've done battle with them over a variety of topics and sometimes I even win. They don't fuck with me or my kids anymore because they know I'm half crazy and will call them out.

This world is full of crazy people. I finally let my almost 16 year old daughter walk home by herself from school, it's about 2 miles. A few days later close to my daughter's school a man was trying to lure a 14 year old girl into his car while she was walking home by herself from school. Just when I let my guard down, I have to put it back up.

Sometimes the things I read on GLP makes me upset cause I have many good friends in Government and Mystic friends too and we get called the Evil Illuminati and we get accusations regularly and lies said about us.

Thats not good they put you thru that, A letter should have gone home with the shoe or a letter to be signed before the pedometer even went out so no one would worry

So are you in the program or not? I hope this didnt give them a bad name but next time they should be more clear, I dislike things that come with no instructions. People think we already are pre programmed as robots or something. Things need to be clear !

The public school system is an indoctrination center, take him out of that cesspool. I endured it for my childhood, and I am still affected by the bullies.

Let him learn what he wants to, show him the truth and all the horrible things in this world. Show him what it means to be a good person, instead of a mainstream trend following government dependent atheist.
