| Esoteric Morgan ...in awe of many things User ID: 3539589 02/03/2012 10:03 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yikes; this again. I can see we need a bit of clarification, to gain understanding. Since not too many GLPers are brushing up on their history it seems, I will revisit this one more time, as best as I can remember events: At least one hundred and twenty years ago, the British promised the Palestinians that in exchange for accepting an influx of jewish people for resettlement, they would never have to worry about them seeking an independent state. That is, there would never be an Israel. Sometime in the 1850's, largely brought about by what was called the 'Jewish Problem' in Germany, there was a concerted effort among people in a number of nations, our's included, to find suitable land as a 'homeland' for jewish people to settle in. In fact --if I am remembering this correctly-- there was one newspaper article suggesting that the Morman Church might consider allocating land in Utah for these 'Israelites' to settle in. It is a fascinating history to study, considering what would unfold in the early decades of the coming century. During the second half of the 1800's, the British Government was heavily invested in northern Africa, while working alongside (well, so they said) the Palestinian Authority, in both the discovery of antiquities, and, plans that would eventually lead to the building a large railway system throughout the region. What I write is a quick synopsis that leaves out much, but, the railroad itself appears more like the venture of a small number of wealthy British and American citizens. This was the time when Ottoman Empire, under the Turks, ruled much of the area. The British presence was not too unwelcome in this political climate. When reading the newspaper articles of that time, the private factions mentioned could have been thought of as 'TPTB' of the era--especially had GLP been around back then! By the end of the 1800's, the British were pretty much trying to force this resettlement issue on the Palestinians, although popular history seems only to remember this only in terms of the British Mandate, instituted after the close of WWl. A few years ago, while doing genealogical research of all things, I noticed an article about this subject in the same mid 1800's New York Times issue I was studying. This led me to dig deeper into what I had believed to be a 20th Century social issue. I was floored by what I found out, although I only researched from 1850's to the early 1900's. To back all this up, since I have already posted many of these newspaper links in a much older thread, once I post this I will try to find a link to that thread tonight. * * * * * There's seems to be a lot of misinformation on the history of this region, leading some people to hold rather biased opinions regarding Palestine, and, how it relates to Israel. I am a pacifist. As such, I urge those who are not so peace-minded to dig a bit deeper into history, to gain a better understanding of the political climate of the Middle East. There's an old adage that some might remember: "Too many cooks spoil the broth." The protestors were not without a message to the UN. Palestinians have a hard time understanding why Israel is allowed to steal their land and violate their human rights with impunity. Quoting from [link to www.imemc.org] "Hamas Slams UN Sec. Gen. for Refusing to Meet Families of Detainees" ...Several protestors threw shoes and stones at the convoy, accusing the U.N. Secretary-General of being biased towards Israel. Some protesters carried posters reading: “Where is the role of the United Nations while Israel is kidnapping elected legislators”, “Where have you been while they starved us, bombarded our homes and killed out children”, “Stop siding by Israel”, and other slogans. Several representatives of Palestinian factions in Gaza refused to meet Ban Ki-Moon, and later on, senior social figures, representatives of legal and human rights groups canceled their meeting with him for rejecting to meet families of Palestinian detainees and victims of Israeli wars on Gaza.... |

This will be accomplished primarily through religious tolerance and an absolute condemnation of any violence other than a mutually reasonable means of defense. Quoting: TXL Yeah good luck with that. Personally I'd nuke the place into a fucking car park. Solve a good majority of the world's problems in one foul swoop. |

Even an online bond of common interests is ammunition against the sickness that would have us kill eachother. I am a jewish by birth and I welcome potential friendships with Palestinians; obviously there may be challenges and obstacles but I am willing to make the effort. |
