The kid cut the cop. Adult, teenager or child, cutting a policeman with a knife is a great way to get yourself shot.

Apparently the wounded officer did not have a taser which is unfortunate since this was a textbook case for its use. However, it still stands that attacking someone with a knife is lethal force and can be answered as such.

Armchair quarterbacking is all fine and good, but without actually being there you can't really pass judgement.

There is a college near me and about 10 years ago a student came back to his dorm and apparently forgot his key. He went to the back of the dorm and was trying to get in through the window. Someone noticed this and called the police. The cops showed up and before it was over, the student had been shot in the back and his dead body was hanging out of the window, head and torso in, legs, feet out.

The cop stated the student lunged at him and he had no choice but shoot. Impossible. Nothing happened to the cop, although he probably got an award for bravery.

That's when I started hating cops. Lying pieces of shit and almost every time someone is shot by the cops, they say the person "lunged" at the cop.

Always some dumbass cop running a red light, turning right on red when the signs says not to, never coming to a full stop, driving 70 in a 45 without their lights on. And they have the nerve to give us tickets for those things.

The article said "kitchen" knife and that the officer was actually cut through his uniform. That seems to indicate that it was much more than a "butter" knife to me, and possibly a serrated blade which can do a lot of damage in a short period of time.

And oh yeah: you don't "tackle" someone with a knife. That's a great way to get deeply and repeatedly stabbed and cut.

Huh....we used to have "nicks no sticks" knife fights on the playground with butter knives from the school lunchroom....butter knives were just sharp enough to break the skin but not cut deeply and too blunt to stab with....I still have some scars from these playground duels....

I hope your kids never sustain a head injury that could cause mental damage.

These poor officers are under too much pressure and stress to worry about things on a case by case basis. They can't be bothered to make snap decisions.

If attacked, the responsible thing for them to do is to act like wild animals and attack back with all the force they have.
